Charm & RP Management
An explanation of how I manage my charm collection of charms (~600) and my almost 200 RP(remembered place) locations (193 as I write this today).
I have nearly 200 remembered places on seventeen bracelets, that I carry with me, and about 600 charms altogether in my permanent collection.
I use a complex system of identifies, aliases, and a spreadsheet for backup.
Every bracelet and RP has an id that starts with a regional code and ends with 'rp'.
Understanding Identify
NB: The following also applies to deluded names.
It is easiest to think of identify using the terms 'noun' and 'adjective'.
The last word in your identify is the noun. (Do not get confused with them in terms of English language. It does not matter if the word in English is a noun or adjective or even a real word.) All of the words before this noun in the identify name are the adjectives. You can refer to an identified object by as many or as few of its adjectives as you need/want. Your object also already has it's own list of adjectives and a noun (sometimes more than one noun if it has aliases. Examles: bookshelf and shelf, bureau and desk).
Here is an example using one of my charms:
I have an emerald black widow spider charm identified to "am assassin guild gate rp".
rp and charm are the nouns, if it were the only rp or charm in my inventory I could either 'look rp' or 'look charm' and see it. I could 'count every rp' or 'count every charm' or 'count charms'. Unfortunately usually 'count rps' does not really work. (It does with deluded names but not identified items.)
All the other words are adjectives: emerald, black, widow, spider, am, assassin, guild, and gate.
I can't do 'locate every widow' but I can do 'locate every widow charm' or 'locate every widow rp' or 'locate every widow thing'. Thing is a special noun that nearly all objects have.
I can 'locate every spider rp', if I do not have too many of them. The list is truncated if there are more than 30 matches.
> locate every spider rp The emerald black widow spider charm ("am assassin guild gate rp") is in the ribbon charm bracelet inside a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The porcelain spider monkey charm ("am jonas vault rp") is in the ribbon charm bracelet inside a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The porcelain spider charm ("ram gloomy cart wheel rp") is in the leather charm bracelet inside a pocket in Asphodel Meadows.
How about:
>locate every black rp Tartarus (worn) (keeping) ("blank rp") is in your inventory. The black silk garter (worn) (keeping) ("new temp cwc amaranth phouse #6a pearl bank walk rp") is in your inventory. The black steel charm bracelet (keeping) ("cwc set08 blank rp") is in a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The black steel charm bracelet (keeping) ("cwc set09 blank rp") is in a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The black steel charm bracelet (keeping) ("cwc set07 blank rp") is in a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The black umbrella (keeping) ("blank rp") is in a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The emerald black widow spider charm ("am assassin guild gate rp") is in the ribbon charm bracelet inside a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The porcelain shark charm ("am whalebone lane mine black segment rp") is in the ribbon charm bracelet inside a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The black rose (keeping) ("blank rp") is in a pocket in Elysian Fields.
Notice that Tartarus a deluded 'utility belt' naturally has black as an adjective. It is not in the short name but it is part of the description and some cre did give it an adjective alias of black so you could 'locate black worn things'.
Need to narrow things down? You can combine any combination and any order of the adjectives to limit your results.
> locate every guild am warrior rp The glass axe charm ("am warrior guild weapon masters master court bar wmc rp") is in the ribbon charm bracelet inside a pocket in Asphodel Meadows. The porcelain mace charm ("am warrior guild palace guard rp") is in the ribbon charm bracelet inside a pocket in Asphodel Meadows.
Keywords:
Because of this I try to remember to keep some unifying words that help me look up places by categories:
keyword | Notes |
---|---|
am, cwc, djb, eph, hub, kla, ram, sur, ubw and xxx | With the exception of Ankh-Morpork, I use a three letter code for each region. Every RP has a region code |
temp and new | I use temp and/or new when making new or temporary rps on my clothing and other carried items. This allows me to quickly see a list of RPs that need to be swapped onto charms at the altar. |
guild | I could look up all guilds in a particular region, or all guilds of a particular branch. |
warrior, thief, wizard, assassin, witch and fool | |
fish, (gapp), (gufnork), (hat), pishe, (sandelfon) and sek | I don't use 'priest', I use the god names. The ones in parenthesis are theoretical, I don't currently actually have any RPs to those gods' temples. |
shop and pshop | I only use shop for npc shops and pshop for player shops |
npc bank and pbank bank | I do use the delimiter of npc with banks because I also have some locations with bank in the name like Pearl Bank Walk. I also like to list all banks (npc and player) at once so the pbanks also get bank in their identify names. |
money changer | |
po post office | |
fence | |
family estate | For each of the family estates in cwc |
real estate agency rea | Notice that 'locate every estate rp' is going to give me a list with both family estates and real estate agencies so I do need to use some sort of delimiter if I don't want to visually sort through all of them. |
doc and retro | doc for doctors and retro for retrophrenologists. I actually have retrophrenologist spelled out in the rp name too but to long to type and sometimes hard to remember how to spell; retro is a lot faster. |
Here are my travel bracelets:

More Coming
I still have more notes to write up. I would like to give examples of how I sort and store my charms (that do not have RPs recorded).
Mixed Discoveries
Almost certainly already documented elsewhere, but these are things I have tested out for myself.
Prayer and Meditation
I did some experiments while 'meditating on obsicration' at the high altar of Pishe.
- Meditating on obsicration adds 5 points to the divinity pool (or would if the pool were not at max.)
- Praying while holding a charging rod or praying without holding a rod, both contribute the same amount of points into the divinity pool.
- Praying at an altar with a full 412gp (faith.rituals.special 169/237) seems to contribute about 51dp. Praying away from the altar with 412gp was about 41dp. This is consistent with the priest wiki which says 1/8 at the high altar 1/10 when praying away from an altar. (412/8=51.5 412/10=41.2)
- Consecrating an item neither adds nor subtracts dp.
- Divine Hand seemed to only consume 5dp. Devout Inquisition says 'Pishe is taking a little bit of the burden'. (Medob, walk away, dh back, medob, subtracting 5 for meditating)
