Listing the colours/shades from the well does appear to be skillchecked, as I get this when I try it:

You stares blankly at the willing well for a few seconds.
You try to gain some insight into the capabilities of the willing well, but just end up staring at it blankly.

A magic skill, I assume, since it's using magic gp.
