PLEASE NOTE! April 3rd 2021, 1730 London time: Capita announced fix for horseshoes. Old horseshoes did not protect hooves and still do not protect hooves. Please buy new horseshoes to protect hooves.

Page name

I propose disambiguating this page from Horse and make it more findable by renaming it to Rideable Mounts. If rideable camels are significantly different in the future, further breakdown of Rideable Horses and Rideable Camels may be useful. Venia (talk) 14:28, 2 April 2021 (EDT)

I was thinking to rename it as Mounts later when camels came in... I suppose we could do it sooner rather than later.
Rideable feels like such a clunky word to me.

Perfect, I like Mounts way more than Rideable Horses! Venia (talk) 16:34, 2 April 2021 (EDT)

Purchasing dead horses

It does not seem possible to buy dead horses any more, so this is kept for posterity.

This horse appears to be deceased. Due to some misplaced sense of loyalty, he's still following the unknown object around.
He appears to be dead.
He is standing.

You inquire about the price of the ghost of a blood bay horse.
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: Ah yes, I got him just earlier today from a rather suspicious customer. I know he doesn't look like much, but I'm sure there's some use you could get out of him.
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: I'll accept no less than A$119.06 for him.

haggle with Prinscilla
You exclaim to Prinscilla: This horse is dead!
Prinscilla asks you with a Lancrastian accent: Come on, he's worth more than that just on novelty value. Whoever heard of a ghost horse?
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: I'll accept no less than A$102.80 for him.

haggle with Prinscilla
You exclaim to Prinscilla: He's passed on!
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: Just look at his beautiful coat.
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: I'll accept no less than A$90.99 for him.

haggle with Prinscilla
Saving...
You realise something new about haggling with merchants.
You exclaim to Prinscilla: He is no more!
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: He cost me twice the price when I bought him.
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: I'll accept no less than A$82.40 for him.

You exclaim to Prinscilla: He has ceased to be!
Prinscilla says to you with a Lancrastian accent: I can't go any lower! I have a family to feed, you know.

Putatively Simple Guide

horse riding and grooming are the main required skills, fighting.special.mounted is only really needed if you want to fight on horseback, crafts.whateveritis.diagnosis is used to see why your horse is sick but you can ask a friendly witch to have a look

Here's a full and complete guide to using horses:
Get 60 levels of ad.mo.ri.ho and cr.hus.an.gr.
Want a combat horse? Pumpkin pony, upgrade to Munz charger once you have more skills.
Fast travel horse? Chalk pony, upgrade to Il Drim dreamhorse.
Pack mule? Chalk pony again, don't need to bother upgrading.
Increase horse's docility to max.
Buy some horseshoes, saddlebags, oats, and hay, and feed it whenever it gets hungry.
Don't carry around a grooming kit, just buy one when you need to groom, then drop it.
Diagnosis is handy but not essential. With a good enough bonus you'll be able to see why your horse is ill but unless you're a witch you can't treat it yourself.
Horses in all honesty are not as complicated or difficult as they seem.
