Apparent Slot Maximum

Even at a statted and mocked ad.di bonus of 617, I still only have 24 slots on the broomstick. At this stage, I'm going to tentatively say that the max number of broomslots is 24, unless proven otherwise. --Sorae 04:59, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Flight under attack

I normally very very rarely fail to lift off and just had 2 failures in a row before flying off on the 3rd attempt in the snail with a sinewed rujona fighting me that was guarding the south exit. I'm thinking something there was making it harder for me to lift off. Just combat? The Snail? Guard? --Frazyl 07:01, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Dubious claims

I'm skeptical about the following claims from the original article:

  • High levels of ma.it.he.br prevent you from breaking legs on landing.
  • Enchanting a broom makes it harder to take off and more likely to misfly.

Can someone confirm whether these are actually true? For now, I've described them as 'might' be related in the article and tagged them with Template:Research; I think we should probably get rid of them if no one's verified them within a few months.

I've also often heard that brooms can break during flight if they are of poor condition - I've never actually seen a real case of this happening, is this just a rumour or has someone got a log? --Chat 10:07, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm dubious about the claim that mis-passaging priests can appear in the flight room. AFAIK, it's not possible to mis-passage at all. I strongly suspect that priests appearing in the flight room are Hattites using their Visit ritual. --Inari 16:39, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Agreed - that seems much more likely, especially as there was a big burst of priest sightings around the time the various visit achievements came in. I've updated the article. --Chat 17:12, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Ditto--I have never, ever misspassaged, not even as a newbie. AFAIK you can't even do it while drunk, it's just a succeed/fail thing (I remember someone getting quite drunk and passaging repeatedly to try to do it). --Ilde 18:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

No one came forward, so I removed "This bonus (magic.items.held.broom) might prevent breaking of legs on landing. The difficulty of taking off might also be affected by the enchantment level of the broom." --Frazyl 23:38, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Pets

My knowledge is pretty rusty in this area - as far as I remember, you need to pick up pets before flying. Is this still the case, or do they now hop on? If the latter is true, please fix the article! --Chat 10:07, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

I've just confirmed that you do have to pick up pets before flying (at least with ground-based ones anyway); they don't auto-hop-on. It's easy enough to add it to your fly to alias though. --Inari 16:39, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Painted iron broomstick

Currently, painting an iron broomstick makes it look like a normal broomstick in description and short name.

This is probably an oversight.

I filed bug #123710 to suggest the short name becomes <colour> iron broomstick and the description be that of the iron broomstick with "painted <colour>" inserted in it.

So if you want to show off your new iron broomstick best not to paint it right now.
