Sumac comes in several varieties, and may be a shrub or a small tree in form. The red fruit is gathered for a spice. It is used in cooking, especially Middle Eastern cuisine.
A tall bush with long, tapered leaves and a woody stem. It has dark scarlet berries that grow in bunches.
This is a small pile of powdered dark scarlet sumac, about five pinches. Sumac is a spice with a tart, lemony taste.
