Description(s)

Descriptions are example(s) from a single individual. Variations may be numerous, and dependent upon species, gender, age, location, and other variables.

--NPC--

Spider (Sto Lat - Cabbage Warehouse)

This is not the household type. Poisonous, possibly: ugly, certainly, it crouches in its spot glaring up at the world with a cluster of beady black eyes under a mop of itchy bristles. It looks excessively unattractive.

  • Alignment: Details needed.

Gigantic pale spider (Sto Lat - Sewers)

A giant pale mutant of a spider, this is definitely not your mild-mannered garden beast. It's something bred and twisted and deformed by generations of sewer living, with hairy legs and eyes that glow in the dark. It looks excessively unattractive.

  • Alignment: Details needed.

Giant spider (Gloomy Forest)

This is a massive black spider, at least five feet in length. It seems to stare evilly at you through thousands of tiny eyes. Two massive fangs protrude from its mouth, dripping with venom.

  • Alignment: 2-4 degrees of evil

Giant cave spider (Copperhead mines)

This is the underground variety of the infamous giant spider. While it is less physically strong than its forest-dwelling cousin, it has adapted a mottled grey carapace for camouflage and the ability to spray tangling webs at potential prey, making it far more dangerous.

Vicious Spider (Gloomy Forest)

Hairy and absolutely horrid in appearance, this black spider is at least a couple of feet long with a bulging abdomen at least a foot wide. Its head consists of way too many shiny black eyes, beneath which a pair of evil-looking fangs protrude.

  • Alignment: Details needed.

--Gatherable--

Spider (Chronides Farmstead)

This is a fat, ugly spider with eight brown and white hairy legs and a lot of attitude. It's a creepy little monster that brings to mind a plot for a moving picture to be aptly called 'Arachnophobia'. Luckily this one seems to have gotten a bit squashed and won't be running off to Holy Wood anytime soon.

  • Alignment: N/A

Spider (Bad Ass - Granny Weatherwax's Cottage; Bes Pelargic - Outhouse)

A fat, hairy, silk-producing arachnid, which has mutated over years of exposure to the fumes from brewing into a truly awesome monster. Unfortunately, this one has been slightly squished.

  • Alignment: N/A

Spider (Scrogden - Outbuilding Attic)

A fat, hairy, silk-producing arachnid, huge, nasty and venomous, it is! Unfortunately, this one has been slightly squished.

  • Alignment: N/A

Uses

  • Non-poisonous spiders can be caught (syntax: 'catch' spider) at Chronides Farmstead, in the chimney of Granny Weatherwax's cottage, in the outhouse in Bes Pelargic, or in the attic of Hughoc's cabin in Scrogden ('get' spider). Ground up non-poisonous spiders -- showing as ground arachnid -- are an ingredient in antivenom. One spider yields 20 pinches of ground arachnid.
  • Glands taken from (dead) giant or pale gigantic spiders (syntax: 'get gland from corpse') are an ingredient for assassins to make poison. These species cannot be ground, neither whole nor in parts.

Special Notes

  • Giant and gigantic pale spiders are aggressive! The gigantic pale spiders may ignore you for some time before attacking.
  • Need eyes? NPC spiders will provide 8 of them!
  • Spiders are either (mostly) harmless and live in dusty places, or big, poisonous beasts that try to kill you in the Gloomy Forest or Sto Lat sewers.
