Rite of AshkEnte

The Rite of AshkEnte is a ceremony that can summon Death to ask a favour. It consists of two spells, both found in the book Spells of Thee Moste Ceremonious Rite of AshkEnte.

The Rite of AshkEnte

The Rite of AshkEnte is an ancient ceremony used to summon Death, or at least anyone filling in for him at the time.

Since Death is a very busy anthropomorphic personification, he can act somewhat annoyed at being interrupted in this fashion.

Disappointed wizards report that the only requests Death is willing to consider at this time are those from the deceased who cannot be raised or resurrected normally due to lack of lives in reserve, to ask for another go at corporeality.

The rite has several stages that must all be completed successfully before a request can be made.

  • The spell Malich's AshkEnte Circle must be cast with occult items, with those worth more being able to place Death in a more favourable mood to answer requests.
  • The circle or special octogram must then be fully charged by 7+1 wizards with the command recharge. This takes time and backfires can do more than 2000 hp of damage.
  • The spell Malich's AshkEnte Summoning Incantation can then be attempted to actually summon Death.
  • If everything goes well Death should then appear to respond to requests for a short time. His mood should in part depend on the quality of occult items used when creating the circle.

Warning: Please see the help at the end of this page (or 'help ashkente' on the mud) for the consequences for a player brought back from beyond their last death - there are penalties!

Casting messages

Casting

You prepare to cast Malich's AshkEnte Circle.
You hold your staff out in front of you and close your eyes.
You begin a slow and solemn chant that resonates around the area.
You lay the ceremonial items down in significant positions around the circle.
You trace a dizzyingly complex pattern on the ground with the tip of your staff.

Success:

A large circle fades into existence on the floor and begins to glow in a decidedly eldritch fashion.

Others see:

Charging the circle

The 7+1 wizards taking part in the ceremony must channel some of their power into the circle until it is fully charged.

This uses the recharge command, "recharge ashkente circle".

Fully charged AshkEnte circle:

A large complicated octogram on the floor glows in eldritch fashion.

Even the untrained eye could tell that this circle, with all its squiggles and lines, is of above-average importance.
The octarine light pulsing around its shape prove that beyond doubt, however.
Eight points on the edge of the circle glow with particular brilliance.

Requests

The ghost wishing corporeality must then request this to Death. If he's in a good enough mood he'll grant a favour.

Death turns to face the ghost of Mournful Mancow.
Death says: IT SEEMS THAT THESE PEOPLE CARE ENOUGH ABOUT YOU TO ASK FOR ANOTHER CHANCE ON YOUR BEHALF.
Death says: I SEEM TO RECALL LOOKING THE OTHER WAY A FEW TIMES BEFORE.
Death sighs.
Death says: THINK OF THIS AS AN EARLY HOGSWATCH PRESENT.
Death gestures to the wizards gathered here.
Death retrieves an hourglass from his robe and fiddles with it for a moment.
Mancow appears in more solid form.
A soft light fills the air around Mancow and dissipates, leaving him looking whole and well.
Death says: I BELIEVE I AM NEEDED ELSEWHERE.

Death snaps his fingers and fades away.
The large eldritch circle pulses and disappears.
