Judging thrown weapons

Here's some data Frazyl and I got for the damage that thrown weapons of different types do. This was with chest focus, and a fighting.range.thrown bonus of 260. They were judged with a 224 ad.ev.we bonus. Each number is an amount of damage done by being hit with it when it was thrown (misses were ignored).

dart ("pathetic", thrown weapon only):

  • 0 several times, 1, can poison but more often doesn't

tlinga ("very poor", thrown weapon only):

  • 87, 87, 88, 88, 89

throwing spike ("reasonable", thrown weapon only):

  • 109, 115, 116, 119, 119, 119,

throwing star ("reasonable", also misc (misc bonus 204)):

  • 163, 164, 165, 168, 169, 170, 172, 181

small throwing hatchet ("quite good", also axe (axe bonus 177)):

  • 268, 280, 283, 283, 285, 289

large throwing hatchet ("good", also axe (axe bonus 177)):

  • 265, 271, 278, 281, 282, 282

medium throwing hatchet ("good", also axe (axe bonus 177)):

  • 303, 303, 304, 306, 308, 308, 310, 310, 313, 315

no. 5 throwing knife ("good", also dagger (dagger bonus 200)):

  • 283, 293, 295, 299, 299, 313, 314, 322, 322

javelin ("powerful", also polearm (polearm bonus 245)):

  • 545, 570, 572, 579, 584, 606

Those were all the ctf weapons available that had any judge as thrown weapons... so it seems that pathetic < very poor < reasonable < quite good <? good < powerful. Skill may be a factor... the throwing hatchets in particular interest me, as the large one did a bit worse than the small one despite, I think, judging better.

I had a 198 dodge bonus for this, although my actual skill at dodging varied a bit as the weapons ended up in my inventory and burdened me to varying degrees. Hopefully that doesn't matter, though... there only seemed to be two messages for them hitting:

  • "hits you in the chest": hatchets, tlinga, throwing spike, bo
  • "pierces your chest": javelin, throwing star, throwing knife

The messages don't seem to relate to damage, since the throwing star was worse than the hatchets... probably just depends on whether it's piercing damage or sharp/blunt.

It should be noted that I lacked the infinite patience and time to judge all the ctf weapons. Those I did didn't have a thrown judge message.
In case some other skill matters, my fighting skills were the following (I had a couple tms while testing but the only bonus that increased because of them was unarmed.)

In particular, the large hatchets doing less damage could be a sign that axe plays a part in throwing axes. Maybe! --Frazyl 04:55, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
