How the skillcheck seems to work (more testing would be helpful):
- N = minimum bonus to pick the lock
- less than N * 1/2 = you always break lockpick
- greater than N + 100 = you always pick the lock

Types of lockpick
The deluxe lockpick seems to increase success rate, but I believe it does not lower the minimum bonus needed. Considering their descriptions, the blackened is likely equal to the deluxe. The make-shift was suprisingly the best, though it did break more (more data needed).
For these tests, the door used had a minimum bonus of 1000, and my bonus was exactly 1000.
lockpick A piece of flexible metal wire that you can bend into all kinds of useful shapes.
deluxe lockpick This is a high-quality lockpick. The wire is fine, but flexible and strong. It also has useful hooks and thicker sections.
blackened lockpick A high-quality lockpick, this piece of fine flexible metal wire can be bent to useful shapes. The difference with this one is that it has been blackened to give that ever slightly more discreet entrance.
make-shift lockpick This make-shift lockpick has been cunningly crafted from a hairpin. It could be untwisted into its more benign form.
