Recurring Dream - The Burial of the Dead

This is one of the recurring dreams you can have from opportunity cards in Echo Bazaar. If you don't want it spoiled, don't read any further! Otherwise, this documents the progress of the dream and effects you may receive/suffer.

This set of dreams has a themes of a very quiet party, bandaged people, and silence. The description of the quality is "Dreams about the tomb-colonies and other dark places.".

Red-bordered cards

These cards will be automatically played if you have the action points spare. They require no choices and as far as I can tell, have no chance of "failure", so what you see is what you get. The number in brackets is the level of dream which unlocks the opportunity.

A dream about wine and dead men (-)

You dream you're at the quietest party ever. You are in a vast dark ballroom lined with mirrors. Dead men and women wrapped in bandages - like they wear in the tomb-colonies - stand around, glasses of wine in hand. No-one says anything. Very occasionally someone coughs. You can't wait to leave, but you feel an obligation to the host.

A dream about a market-place crowded with dead men. (1)

You dream you're at a window, watching dead men wrapped in bandages go to and fro in the square below. Candle-lit stalls sell little ornaments of copper and ivory, or mouldering books. At one side of the square a troupe of clowns shuffle disconsolately in circles. You tap the windowsill, waiting impatiently for something to happen.

A dream about a market-place crowded with dead men. (4, Nightmares 6)

You dream you're at a window, watching dead men wrapped in bandages go to and fro in the square below. As you watch, you begin, absent-mindedly, to unpick one of the fraying bandages covering your own face. You wake suddenly to find your hands tugging and scratching at the skin around your jaw. It takes a long while to get back to sleep, and the next day you are hollow-eyed and wretched.

White-bordered cards

These cards give you a choice when you play them, and you may opt out at no penalty. Once again, the number in brackets is the level in dream required to unlock the opportunity.
