Practice poi is a misc weapon that can be whirled in various patterns !

Oh you could try to fight someone with it I guess. But it's made of cloth.

It weighs &&&&&&+350 175 g on the Jeweller's balance. Since 1 lb is 450 g, it thus weighs 7/18 lb.

Long Description

Strips of cloth have been loosely rolled into a soft ball and attached to a length of string to form this poi. At the other end of the string is a small loop just big enough for two fingers.
You get the feeling that you could check the patterns you know and attempt to whirl it in one of those patterns.

Appraises As

The practice poi is roughly a couple of inches long and roughly a couple of inches wide. It is made of cloth and could be used as a weapon of type misc. It is in excellent condition.

Whirling

check patterns in poi
Casting your mind back to your training you recall the following patterns: wall plane, flower, butterfly and three beat weave.
You check the patterns on the practice poi.

You can 'whirl' poi in a number of patterns. Some patterns require two pois.

wall plane

  • Seems to be the easiest.
  • Requires holding only one poi.
You begin to rotate your wrist sending your practice poi whirling around so fast that it looks like a shield being held out at arms length.

Showing exceptional skill and a definite flair for style, you begin to rotate your wrist sending your practice poi whirling around so fast that it looks like a shield being held out at arms length.

flower

  • Easy
  • Requires two poi.
You begin to whirl your outstretched arms along with two practice poi keeping them at opposite points of the circle and describing a pattern reminiscent of flower petals.

butterfly

  • Harder than flower and plane.
  • Requires two poi.
Working hard to maintain control, you just manage to start to spin two practice poi by your side before moving them in front of you until they are almost aligned. Somehow avoiding entanglements you spin them in a way that resembles butterfly wings gently flapping.

three beat weave

  • Hardest.
  • Requires two poi.
Working hard to maintain control, you just manage to start to twirl two practice poi by your side; first one then the other. As the first one reaches its apex you bring them across your body one after the other so that your arms are crossed and they are on the opposite sides from where they started. After a single revolution you return two practice poi to their starting position uncrossing your arms in the process.

Acquisition

Fire Poi can be bought from the Maisey Bent, which is sometimes found in the Fools Guild on Octeday and in various other locations on the other days of the week.
