Pick is a covert command to lock or unlock locks without needing the corresponding key.

There has been an update which means that you will gain a bigger advantage than before when you pick a lock or disable a trap if you probe it successfully first.

Usage

Pick is a covert command that is used to unlock and lock locks on doors or containers (excluding safes) with a lockpick.

On failing to pick a door there is a chance you will break your lockpick  research If this has been marked on a page, it's because there was something that probably isn't known, that the person who edited the page thinks could be found out. Perhaps you could figure this thing out, and be famous evermore. .

Using pick on an unlocked door/object will lock it, whether your pick is successful or not.

If successful probe makes subsequent picking the lock and disabling any traps in it easier.

The command probe can also be used to assess how easy a lock is to pick, and if it has any traps. Not all doors are pickable (you'll automatically fail/break the lockpick), while some locked doors do not have visible locks at all.

If you pick a door with an armed trap, you will trigger the trap, or, with enough covert.items.traps it will stop you and suggest you use disable first.

There is a false door and chest in the locksmith's shop on the Street of Cunning Artificers near Upper Broadway, Ankh-Morpork, where it is possible to test lockpicking on most door and furniture lock types (except the octiron locks sold in Genua).
