Nanny Revere's Traitorous Talisman is a miscellaneous witch spell which severs the bond between a magical talisman (either natural or created by Delusions of Grandeur) and its owner.

Acquisition

This spell can be learned at 110 levels of magic.spells.misc. It is taught by Granny Weatherwax and Aunty Ogg-San.

Effects

Once this spell has been successfully cast on an item, that item is no longer bonded to its previous owner. All exclusivity effects associated with the item cease (so weapons, for example, can now be held by anyone), and it is able to be re-bonded to another player if desired.

Casting

This spell costs 80 GP to cast, generates 10 thaums, and takes up 50 units of mind space. It may be cast on any magical talisman which is already bonded.

This spell is PK-checked: a witch may unbond an item bonded to herself or to an NPC, but not to another player unless both she and that player are playerkillers. The PK Arena works for this purpose.

The spell also fails on items that are permanently bonded such as Cohen's Wyrm sword. Reportedly some old quest items were linked to the person who did it and were also not possible to unbond.

Casting messages

Casting
You inspect the <item> to ascertain its true nature. You engage thethe <item> in a friendly little chat, secretly searching for any loyalties it may have and trying to determine their depth.
While outwardly (or, in point of fact, inwardly) chatting aimlessly about your <item>'s friends, you cleverly whisper subliminal messages into its metaphorical ear.
Hoping to convince the <item> to be its own thing just as hard as it can, you point out that it doesn't really need anyone else and would be better off on its own.
Success (not bonded to you)
The <item> looks around for a rebuttal from its supposedly loyal companion. Finding none, a new resolve takes hold of it and it nods its head in agreement.
Success (bonded to you)
<item> glares at you. You feel the bond between you snap as it stalks off in a huff.
Failure (PK-check)
The <item> thumbs its nose at you. You get the distinct impression that your little lecture was a complete waste of time.
