Marry

Certain guild officials and magistrates are granted the power to perform weddings. The marry command lets the official set up a marriage between two players and is completed if they accept it.

Description

When the marry command is used, a wedding arbour will be created and the ceremony may commence.

Both parties must accept the marriage before it can be completed, and the wedding can only take place at the wedding arbour.

If rings are not specified, two rings will be created. (The one with the fish and rabbit in the description.)

If rings are specified, each participant places a ring on their spouse's finger during the ceremony. This allows weddings using custom or crafted rings.

When using rings, it is important that each participant places the correct ring on their spouse's finger during the ceremony. The rings that are used during the ceremony become wedding rings specific to each participant and their spouse.

If the wrong rings are used during the ceremony, this can not be rectified at a later date. The exchange of rings must take place before completion of the marriage. Rings which are already wedding rings can not be used. (i.e. Having previously been used in a ceremony. You can use a ring that has wedding ring as the name.)

The marry and divorce commands will also cause the spouse lists of the prospective participants to be cleaned up by the removal of the names of any no longer existing players.

Syntax for the officiant:

Marry two people to each other.

marry <player> to <player>

Marry two people to each other using participants own wedding rings.

marry <player> to <player> with rings                                                                 
complete [the] marriage

Syntax for the couple:

accept marriage
reject marriage

If participants are using their own rings:

place <ring> on finger of <name>

The actual marry command process can go very quickly. However, If you want to make a ceremony of it, you need to add a lot of your own content. The following example is provided to both inspire you in creating a unique ceremony and help with understanding the timing of the command process.

[PhantomRacer sees:] Ms Emily von Schaf offers to marry you to Festive Sylfver Fallstar. Use "accept marriage" to accept and "reject marriage" to reject the offer.

[Sylfver sees:] Ms Emily von Schaf offers to marry you to PhantomRacer the Fluffy. Use "accept marriage" to accept and "reject marriage" to reject the offer.

say Do you, PhantomRacer, accept this marriage?

[PhantomRacer:] accept marriage

[PhantomRacer sees:] You may now place your chosen ring on your new spouse's finger. Please ensure you use the correct ring, because if the wrong ring is used, this can not be fixed later.

[PhantomRacer sees:] You agree to marry Festive Sylfver Fallstar.

[Sylfver sees:] PhantomRacer the Fluffy agrees to marry you.

[Officiant sees:] PhantomRacer the Fluffy agrees to marry Sylfver Fallstar.

say Do you, Sylfver, accept this marriage?

[Sylfver:] accept marriage

[Sylfver sees:] You may now place your chosen ring on your new spouse's finger. Please ensure you use the correct ring, because if the wrong ring is used, this can not be fixed later.

[Sylfver sees:] You agree to marry PhantomRacer the Fluffy.

[PhantomRacer sees:] Festive Sylfver Fallstar agrees to marry you.

[Officiant sees:] Both parties have agreed to be married, however you may not "complete the marriage" until the exchange of rings has taken place.

[Officiant sees:] Sylfver Fallstar agrees to marry PhantomRacer the Fluffy.
