# Endless Halls maze

The Endless Halls maze is the destination to which a target of the Endless Halls ritual is sent.

The maze should not be dangerous in itself. Moving through the maze does not harm you and the inhabitants inside it do not appear to attack first.

### Environment

It is, of course, indoors.

As such you cannot seem to circle inside it, though there should be bigger rooms that would allow circling.

The maze also prevents you from looking into the surrounding rooms.

You cannot perform Divine Hand or Remember Place while in the maze. You also can't perform Endless Halls again. Finally, as the target is separated from the rest of the disc, using Find from inside the maze, or on someone inside the maze, will yield no useful results.

### Layout

You get a new maze with a different layout--and with the exit in a different spot--every time you perform the ritual.

This makes mapping any particular maze slightly pointless--although it's entirely possible to do so, as the exits within the maze work normally (despite being "twisty", meaning that you can't see through them), and the rooms can be thought of as all being the same size and the same distance apart.

Regardless of the specific layout, the maze always completely fill a square and all rooms can always be accessed (the maze that Hermal creates is usually six by six, but this can vary as he can sometimes spawn with high enough skills to generate size seven by seven mazes). The target also seems to always be placed in the northwest corner - usually in the very northwest-most corner, but can sometimes be within one room of this.

If you log out in the maze, then when you log back in you'll be placed into a different, larger maze. This maze is eight by eight instead of however large the first one was (though this, too, may be skill-dependant). The duration will be reset, too, leaving forty-five minutes until the new maze fades away.

The room exits in the maze seem limited to west, south, east, north and in only one room in the maze exit.

Since the maze is limited in size and doesn't seem to have any sections loop on themselves, it should be possible to visit all the rooms by always choosing the exits in the same clockwise or counterclockwise sequence, picking the next exit available turning from the exit you entered the room with.

For example, say you use counterclockwise and just went south. Then you try to take the exit that's counterclockwise of the way backward (south) which gives west if it exists, otherwise the next one going counterclockwise (south), otherwise east, otherwise back north. Say you went east, then you try to go south, if you can't go east, if you can't then go north, if you can't then go back west. If you start with the counterclockwise turning keep using it, don't switch. You can use clockwise instead if you stick to it.

In relative directions for counterclockwise solving, for each room you try the following exits until one works: right, forward, left, backward.

### Dying

Dying inside the maze will cause you to be dropped out of it, with your corpse, into the room you would have exited into.

You turn and see Death standing behind you. ### Inhabitants There are various creatures living inside the maze. Though they do not move aggressively towards you if you only move about, some of them can be very dangerous when attacked. Not all creatures show up in every maze. Sometimes they show up more than once, probably because of Quantum. Except where noted, creatures stay put in their room. While attempts are made to document the various creatures inhabiting (or perhaps trapped) in the maze, some previously unseen beings could still be discovered. Killing the inhabitants does not produce corpses, they just fade away (except the dragon), so objects on npcs must be stolen or otherwise obtained while they are alive. #### Acidic Death Jelly Very strong. Do not fight them. Hits do upwards of 600 HP damage. This is a huge green lump of jelly! It oozes and corrodes the surface on which it squelches. A disgusting stench surrounds it, and it steams with foul-smelling fumes. It is in good shape. It is slithering about. The indigo acidic death jelly slurps viscously. The indigo acidic death jelly gurgles noisily. The indigo acidic death jelly steams with acid fumes. The indigo acidic death jelly dribbles corrosive indigo slime.  It comes in various colours, including indigo and green. The Jelly can move rooms, and will slowly eat/dissolve room objects, causing them to completely vanish. #### Billy-Bob A hotdog seller... Though surely there's no such thing as hotdog College... right? Right!? Slightly out of place, but nonetheless staunchly obeying what was drilled into him at hotdog College, Billy-Bob is wandering around selling hotdogs to all and sundry. He doesn't quite know how he got here. He doesn't quite know where he actually is. But by golly, he is going to sell hotdogs. He is in good shape. He is standing. Wearing : a pair of cheap leather boots, a set of overalls and a wooden tray. Billy-Bob says to you: I have the following items for sale: Billy-Bob says to you: And finally I have two hundred hotdogs for A$1 each.
Billy-Bob says to you: The hotdog is priced at A\$1. Let me show it to you.
Billy-Bob whispers to you: the hotdog:
Unbelievably, this is the kind of thing Dibbler bases his 'cuisine' on. It is the genuine thing; a hot and tasty sausage in a fluffy bread roll, smothered in tomato ketchup and mustard. Quite delicious!
Billy-Bob exclaims: hotdogs, Dibbler hotdogs, what kind of kid eats Dibbler hotdogs!
Billy-Bob exclaims: Sick kids, wretched kids, kids who have the pox!

#### Chief Gn... and the evil looking gnolls

The name of the leader seems to change, Chief Gniver, Chief Gnargh and Chief Gnarad were seen so far.

{Gniver / Gnargh / Gnerano / Gnarad} would appear to be the leader of a roving group of gnolls.  She looks like a large, malignant, armoured compost heap that would as soon kill you as look at you.
She is in good shape.
She is standing.
Holding : {a long sword (left hand) / a dagger (left hand)} and a medium metal shield (right hand).
Wearing : a mass of grimy rags and a horned helm.

{Four / Seven} evil looking gnolls run in to join their chief.

This is a typical evil henchgnoll of the sort usually found torturing innocents or stealing from travellers.  <She/It/He> stares evilly around, taking note of all those weaker than <her/it/he> and anyone or anything with objects of value on them.
She is in good shape.

#### Crazy Dennis

Armed with a long sword and a short sword, this dwarf is no push-over.

The grey hairs sticking out at crazy angles from his head combined with the confused look in his wise eyes may suggest that this is just some harmless old crazy man.  Behind the confusion, however, there's a glint of something else.
He is in good shape.
He is standing.
Holding : a short sword (left hand) and a long sword (right hand).
Wearing : a baggy leather loincloth, a horned dwarfish helmet, a long sword scabbard and a short sword scabbard.


#### Cute little kitten

Aww a cute kitten that wants to play. She wanders through the maze.

A small sleek black and white kitten, looking for someone to play with.  The markings on her face look
oddly like a black mask, while a black stripe runs around her belly, almost like a belt.
She is in good shape.
She is standing.

The cute little kitten warily stalks a bit of dust.
The cute little kitten miaows plaintively in the hope that you'll play with her.

You pet the cute little kitten.
The cute little kitten purrs happily.

You play with the cute little kitten.
The cute little kitten bounces around you.

The cute little kitten stands on her hindlegs in a cute, kitten-like version of the classic ninja stance.
The cute little kitten bounces off east.


#### Dull brown moth flitting around

A moth that wanders around the maze and bumps into things.

This small, winged insect flutters jerkily around the room from one thing to another.  It leaves a trail of shimmering bronze dust behind it, but this doesn't seem to interfere with its flight.
It is in good shape.
It is flitting around.

The dull brown moth crashes into your eye before vanishing again.


#### Large metallic dragon

This artificial creation has rather strong attacks, some hits taking about 400 hp, but it does not have too many hit points.

This dragon is really rather odd, its scales are uneven and made of a strange metal, while the head is blocky and the eyes glow as if they are on fire.  The even stranger thing is the fact the whole thing moves in a jerky, mechanical way giving an impression that it was not hatched but rather built.

The large metallic dragon walks from one side of the room to another, clunking loudly.


It doesn't follow people it is fighting that leave the room.

When killed it explodes, which can do 1500 hp of damage to everything in the room.

The large metallic dragon explodes in a violent inferno of fire, oil, soot and dragon bits.

A clockwork mechanism, two oiled leather sheets and two sheets of steel are on the floor and a large crater is recessed into the floor here, a thin stream of smoke rising from it.


After the explosion you can find some random parts that survived the explosion - these can be used to make clockwork constructs.

#### Librarian

This individual is stronger than he appears and seems to be a few bananas short of being a balanced librarian. Not that he's an orangutan. Maybe that's the problem.

This is Mr. Trent, a youngish, lanky, and disturbingly attractive young man who serves as a librarian.  He seems to be somewhat confused at the moment, his odd surroundings have apparently fused his brain into thinking he is still at the library.  Like all good librarians, he appears to be constantly distracted by voices in his head, and spends most of his time muttering to himself...

Wearing : a pair of black leather shoes, a trendy dress and a red wig.


#### Little girl skipping rope

She's not stronger than she looks.

This is an eight-year-old girl, with perfect long blond pigtails, perfect big blue eyes, and a perfect peaches and cream complexion.  She is steadfastly, almost obsessively, skipping rope.  She stares vacantly ahead of her, her eyes wide and dilated.
She is in good shape.
She is skipping rope.
Holding : a skipping rope (left hand and right hand).
Wearing : a pair of black leather shoes, a pair of white stockings, a baby blue dress and a white cotton pinafore.


#### Old man

This is an old, wrinkled man.  He looks like a prune would if you sucked all the moisture out and left only the saggy, tired skin.  His hair is disheveled and matted.  His eyes are vague and seem to focus only on the misty, murky world of the past that floats behind his own eyes.
He is in good shape.
He is standing.
Holding : a walking stick (left hand).
Wearing : a pair of soft leather sandals and a dirty grey robe.

The old man says: They don't let me beat people up like I used to... because I'm too old. But I have my ways.
The old man says: One trick is to tell stories that don't go anywhere.

The old man says: Back when I was young, rich people used to ride in stagecoachs and throw tooni at people.
The old man says: Then one day, I saw Rincewind passing by... so I run out of my house with a kitten to catch the
money in.
The old man exclaims: Hey, I'm talking to you!  Pay attention!
The old man says: Anyway, a kitten wasn't the best thing to catch tooni in, but I felt lucky because I'd just used
it that morning to avoid being beaten up by a quill, which in those days was called a thingspondle.
The old man says: We always used to make sure we had a thingspondle just in case of situations like what happened
in the Diet of Bugs.
The old man says: Why, even when I was young I had a few of them.  Let me try and count them in my mind... one...
two... three... four... five... No, wait... let me start over.  one... two... three... four...   Oh, now I
can't remember..
The old man yawns loudly.
The old man goes to sleep.

The old man yawns.
The old man stretches sleepily.
The old man stretches.
The old man asks: Ah, now where were we?
The old man says: Back when I was young, rich people used to ride in stagecoachs and throw crowns at people.
The old man says: Then one day, I saw Lily Weatherwax passing by... so I run out of my house with a jar to catch
the money in.
The old man exclaims: Hey, I'm talking to you!  Pay attention!
The old man says: Anyway, a jar wasn't the best thing to catch crowns in, but I felt lucky because I'd just used it
that morning to avoid being abducted by a confused ocelot, which in those days was called a sprockit.
The old man says: We always used to make sure we had a sprockit just in case of situations like what happened in
the Battle of Genua.
The old man says: Why, even when I was young I had a few of them.  Let me try and count them in my mind... one...
two... three... four... No, wait... let me start over.  one... two... three...   Oh, now I can't remember..
The old man yawns loudly.
The old man goes to sleep.


#### Wizard

Perhaps having traded his spell components for a magic smelly seed, this so called wizard seems rather good at the art of not casting spells.

Like all good Wizards, this one is overly large around the middle and wearing a robe that would blind a hedgehog.  While seeming quite normal, the constant muttering and shaking of his head indicates he is quite confused about something.

Holding : a crooked staff (left hand and right hand).
Wearing : a pair of pointy wizard shoes and a sequinned robe.
Carrying: a smelly seed.


### Furniture

Most rooms are empty, but some contain furniture... some of which appears to be unique to the maze.

None can be dragged out, although you can take water from fountains and so on.

The furniture come together in a set for the room. Like npcs, there can be several rooms with the same set of furniture.

Found sets:

• An oak single bed, a rocking chair, a grandfather clock and an ebony bedside table are placed around the room.
• A light blue sofa, a tulip wood coffee table and a lava lamp are placed around the room.
• A porcelain toilet with the lid up, a tin bathtub and a wash basin are placed around the room.
The bathtub can be filled and washed within, and the toilet is... usable.
• A jade Pishe figurine, a large ash table, a brown leather armchair and a cherry bookshelf are placed around the room.
• A small stove and an oak kitchen table are placed around the room.
• An arched mirror, a small beach mirror, a bevelled mirror, a jasmine mirror and a brass oval mirror are placed around the room.
• A ladderback chair, a small mahogany chest and an arched mirror are placed around the room.
The small mahogany chest contains a small iron key (which, conveniently, locks and unlocks the chest itself):
This small, yet sturdy, key looks like it is for a safe.
• A pine bookcase, a large black table, a cuckoo clock and a brown leather armchair are placed around the room.
• A relaxing fountain and a sundial are placed around the room.

### Rooms

The rooms have many different shapes and colours that defy normal geometry and, often enough, fashion sense.

The descriptions seem to be based on a few patterns with differing keywords for ceiling, floor and walls in the places marked with <>. Sometimes there's two words instead of just one.

Here are those that we managed to record coherently:

• A length of corridor stretches before you. The walls of this corridor are made of <> with a <> ceiling and a <> floor.
• <> walls crowd this space, which might be called a room if only it were a little larger. The <> floor seems to get progressively smaller, whilst the <> ceiling seems unable to retain any fixed shape at all.
• This is a nightmarish chamber within the maze, where <> walls stretch at surreal and painful angles from the <> floor to the <> ceiling. The whole combination is headache-inducing.
• A <> ceiling overhangs the <> floor here, with a twisted eye-watering perspective that throws the <> walls into truly bizarre shapes that no mind should ever have to contemplate.
• This is a small corridor within the maze, where the <> floor runs away towards <> walls, which ripple vertically up to the <> ceiling. Something about the surfaces suggests a dizzying fluid movement.

Ceiling keywords: amber, carpeted, glass, holey, spiked, tentacled, tiled, wooden

Floor keywords: bushy, carpeted, dirt, polished, sandy green, slurry covered, smooth, sticky, tiled, wooden

Walls keywords: aged plaster, brick, carved wood, cloth, cork, crumbling stone, glass, grey stone, marble, metal, metal grid, pillared, pitted metal, rock, sandstone, steel, stone, straw, thatch, wallpaper, white concrete
