Long Description
This single-edged short sword is barely more than two feet in length, with a subtle curve along the length of the blade. Perfectly suited for infiltration and close quarters fighting, the kodachi flourishes where the katana would prove too unwieldly. The <folded|blackened> steel of the blade bears a pattern of <pattern> and the hilt has been wrapped in <colour material>. The maker's mark, a single reed gracefully curved by an unfelt wind, is engraved on the simple square tsuba behind the blade. It appears to have something written on it.
Appraises As
The <descriptive name> kodachi is about two feet long and roughly a couple of inches wide. It is made of steel and could be used as a weapon of type sword. It is in excellent condition.
Acquisition
May be ordered from Wan Bending Reed in the Samurai dojo, in northwastern Bes Pelargic.
The player must have at least a 300 bonus in fighting.melee.sword, as well as a 200 unstatted bonus in people.culture.agatean, before Wan Bending Reed will consider him or her worthy to wield one of his weapons.
Additionally, some covert skill is required to order a kodachi. An average bonus of 200 in covert.stealth subskills was sufficient.
There is also a requirement to have at least 60 levels of spoken agatean to place an order. Custom weapons take 2 real days (6 days 16 hours on Discworld) to complete.
Item Name
When custom kodachi are ordered you are given the choice of a selection of grip colours and materials, and you can have a pattern folded into the steel (see custom samurai patterns and grips). Certain combination of grip and patterns give the kodachi special names, these can be found at the list of custom kodachi.
Notes
Weapons from Wan Bending Reed will perform better in the hands of the player they were made for. In the hands of someone else, their damage ranks drop by one point each.
