Journey of the Heavenly Storm Dragon (abbreviated as JHSD) is a offensive spell that summons a serpent to attack one or more targets. It can only be cast outside.

Casting

This spell costs 100 GP to cast and takes up 75 units of mind space.

If cast while holding anything metal (be it an unpicker, a staff, a knife, some cutlery, a shield... anything that counts as being metallic), the JHSD will channel down into you doing many multiple thousands of damage, nearly destroying the metal item and very likely killing the caster in the process. It is suggested you only ever cast JHSD using an alias that "unholds all" or "unholds all except klein bottles" before casting, for safety.

If cast indoors, the cast will fail with the line; "You suddenly realise you're not outdoors, but not before hurling the torch straight up into the air, bursting it against the ceiling in a shower of hot sparks that rain down upon you." This will do a randomised amount of fire damage (1-500 damage measured) to you, unless you have a fire HEB shield in effect, which will protect you fully from this molten rain.

Casting

You spit into the air.
You think of dragon's breath as you blow forcefully into the air, whistling a strange melodic dirge.
You strike the end of your staff solidly into the ground, setting it humming with power.
With your mind in focus, you sling the torch into the sky and meditate on all the summoned elements.
You swing your charged staff towards your unknowing target.

Success

* A crackling blue serpent arrives from above, and flies toward the <target> in a flash of fury.
* A storm serpent passes over the <target 1> and heads directly towards the <target 2>.

Failure

* A flaming red serpent arrives from above, clings to Elauna d'Ardoise and burns her face.
*A humming red serpent arrives from above, spins around you and flies off again ignoring the <target> totally.
*Thunder like a dragon roaring cuts through the air, then dies out again.

Note: Failing to control the serpent will result in it turning on the unfortunate caster.

To others

Geryon Womblesworth spits into the air.
Geryon Womblesworth presses his lips together and starts whistling a strange melodic dirge to the sky above.
Geryon Womblesworth pummels his staff solidly into the ground.
Geryon Womblesworth slings a torch into the sky and gazes into the heavens intently.
Geryon Womblesworth swings his staff at the torch as it falls.
A crackling blue serpent arrives from above, nods at Geryon Womblesworth and flies towards the <target> in a flash of fury.

Degrees of success

The serpent can do varying degrees of damage.

  • The serpent whips the <target> and makes his hair stand on end.
  • The serpent wraps the <target> in its tail and spews red orbs of energy at his chest before fading away. Comically, the <target> now seems extra crispy as thaumic smoke curls away from his feet.
  • The serpent engulfs the <target> in a flash of red, and there comes the smell of burning flesh.
  • The serpent bites the <target> and red ribbons stream from every part of his body.
  • The serpent passes completely through the <target>. A hole smokes where a torso used to be!
