Giant fruitbats are NPCs summoned by witches using the spell Mother Harblist's Fruity Flyer.

Description

This is <name>, a fruitbat that <owner> has summoned to do her bidding. S/he looks cute, in a way that only a two foot tall fruitbat carrying a small basket with its feet could.

Food & Feeding

Fruitbats need to be fed regularly.

When a fruitbat requires nourishment, it will indicate so with one of the following chats:

  • <name> the giant fruitbat looks a bit peckish.
  • <name> the giant fruitbat nibbles on his/her wing hungrily.
  • <name> the giant fruitbat stares at you anxiously.
  • <name> the giant fruitbat looks rather hungry.
  • <name> the giant fruitbat looks really hungry.
  • <name> the giant fruitbat growls menacingly.

There are several degrees of hunger your fruitbat can have. From most fed to least: well-fed, thin, famished and starving.

  • If you do not feed your fruitbat when it's starving, it will fly off after a while, will drop anything held and will take anything worn with it.

Clothing

When fruitbats are given something that they can wear they automatically wear it.

  • You can find clothes for fruitsbats in Fruitbat Fabrics Pty Ltd, a shop in the beginning of the Snail in Bes Pelargic.
    • blue furry wing cosy for &&&&&&&&&&+10800 22Rh 60s
    • flowery bonnet for &&&&&&&&&&&+5580 11Rh 75s
    • leather skirt for &&&&&&&&&&&+7348 15Rh 37s
    • leather waistcoat for &&&&&&&&&&&+6480 13Rh 60s
    • ornate fruitbat brush for &&&&&&&&&&&+2520 5Rh 30s (to brush your fruitbats, this removes the seeds in their fur)
    • pair of fur-lined leather boots for &&&&&&&&&&&+9180 19Rh 15s
    • pair of furry leggings for &&&&&&&&&&&+7200 15Rh
    • pink furry wing cosy for &&&&&&&&&&+10800 22Rh 60s
  • You can order custom fruitbat clothing from Elmira in Razorback.
  • They can also wear and use magick crystals.

Perils

Fruitbats do not breathe underwater and can fail swimming.

  • They will follow you underwater, but might not manage to swim out, especially if they are carrying heavy things.
  • You can ask them to stay before doing underwater rescues.
  • If you do not notice that they failed to follow going up then they won't try going up again because you are no longer there for them to follow. You have to go back and move again to get them to (try) to follow up.
  • Fruitbats follow through twisting a blue crystal ring, so you can get them out of water that way.

It can be convenient to tempt fruitbats to feed them, but poisoning them can lead to combat with your fruitbat.

  • This can be dangerous to you and/or your fruitbat depending on your skills.
  • It is best to have an alias to ask them to stay so you can do that and then leave the room. Then you need to wait long enough that they stop fighting you. This takes around ten or twenty seconds longer after you naturally stop fighting them (if you don't use stop). You can check 'score fighting' if you think you missed the line saying you are no longer hunting for them.

Most npcs will not attack fruitbats, even those that automatically attack players. Unfortunately, some npcs do attack fruitbats. The most dangerous npcs should be higher in the following list.

Notes:

  • The safest course of action is to keep your fruitbat away from npcs that attack them and leave the room and move another room if they are attacked. The second move is because auto-attacking npcs usually move towards where you left after a few seconds.
  • If you are already killing the threat, then the npcs low on this list are thought to be less likely to kill your fruitbat because those npcs are weak and/or not numerous enough to seriously damage a healthy fruitbat. But fruitbats are still likely to be hurt if they stay in the room with hostile npcs.
  • Keep in mind that any npc that attack fruitbats can kill them if the conditions are right, like low hp, etc.
  • You can cast CCC and TPA from scrolls on your fruitbat, but shields on your fruitbat do not save when you logout or idle out.
  • You can also defend or protect your fruitbat.
  • Fruitbats can wear amber crystals, but limited testing only had weak bug shield that would come and leave randomly.

Syntaxes

  • name <fruitbat> <name>

  • ask <fruitbat> to not accept things from strangers
  • ask <fruitbat> to return <object>
  • ask <fruitbat> to accept things from strangers

  • ask <fruitbat> to follow

  • ask <fruitbat> to {take|carry|get} <object>
  • ask <fruitbat> to leave
  • ask <fruitbat> to go on a diet

For fun

  • eat <fruitbat>

If you get a bit peckish yourself.

  • squeeze <fruitbat>

To encourage guano production after feeding.

  • pick/groom <fruit> seed from <fruitbat> [fur]

To obtain seeds from the fruits you fed the fruitbat.

There might still be some seeds in the fur even if you don't see it in the fruitbat's description. Seeing the seed line seems random.

  • brush <fruitbat> with <brush>

To rapidly remove many seeds caught in the fruitbat's fur. The specific kind of seed is not described like when you pick/groom, anyway they're gone forever so it doesn't matter much. Requires a brush.
