Fang Family Estate Map, by Kefka, Updated for Quow's Cow Bar

Overview

One of the five noble families in Bes Pelargic. Players can join the Fangs to gain a line in their title, money, and experience - as well as the use of the perks located in the family estate. The unique perks vary per family, but generally include things such as a mail/contract room, kitchens, gardens, and teachers you can advance from.

Emblem

The symbol used by the Fang family is a red and gold snarling tiger, which can be found on family kimonos and crests.

The family colours are grey with red hem.

Fang family kimono
This grey kimono, with red hem and embroidery marks the wearer as a member of the Fang Family. The family colours are augmented by the family emblem, a snarling tiger, embroidered in red and gold on the chest. The Fang family kimono has two side pockets.

The family colours are grey and red, with some gold.

Joining

The Fang family isn't as picky as some of the other families - they will accept anyone who is a member of a guild and has some proficiency in the Agatean language. Which of course, you should have anyhow if you plan to do a mission - at least 65 spoken, and up to 90 written for certain missions.

Territory

The Fangs tend to be centered on Pong Ping. Among other places, being a Fang will get you a discount in Won Huge Sausage's Morporkian restaurant, for all your greasy sausage and bacon needs.

The Fang Family Estate

The Estate is in central BP/Pong Ping district, westwards from the Phoenix park. The main entrance is at 'a plateau high up on Tora Hill'. The Estate proper is surrounded by Tora Lake.

Forgery Room

On the topmost story of the Estate is a room that provides the syntax forge. For a small fee (&&&&&&&&&&&+2400 5Rh for an arms permit, &&&&&&&&&&&+4800 10Rh for a birth certificate), those members of House Fang sufficiently skilled in design, printing, drawing, and calligraphy can make forgeries of Agatean birth certificates and arms permits.[1] You must be a member of the family to use the forgery room.

A failure can destroy the original item you are copying from, so take care.

You need something to copy from - either an original item or a counterfeit, which is more difficult, meaning you end up with a less convincing forgery. You must have both hands free to forge anything.

Birth certificates

Names can be changed on birth certificates (forge <object> for <name>). You must have an original. Any genuinely Agatean-born character can obtain one for you in the Hall of Records.

Weapon permits

Weapon permits don't need names and can be forged simply with forge permit.

Imperial Guards will spot almost anything short of an airtight permit forgery and confiscate your permit, but not your weapons (see below). A forged weapons permit will have its start date set to the moment of forging. You can forge an up-to-date permit from an expired permit, so you don't need to keep buying new ones to forge from.

Only the forger of a permit can identify a forgery and see how good it is (read permit). It may be possible to identify someone else's forgery with enough perception, but 774 bonus wasn't enough to ID airtight or eyes only permits.

The process

Forging an item has four steps. 225 bonus appears to be enough for good results in all the skills.

  • trace symbols from original This uses crafts.arts.drawing. A bad enough failure here will cut right through the paper to the original beneath, and destroy it.

At the end of the last stage (the signing stage), you will be told how good a forgery is:

  • Examining your handiwork, you think this is a very competent forgery that will easily fool most people.
  • You're confident that your work will withstand scrutiny from all but the very keenest of eyes.
  • You finish the forgery. There's no doubt in your mind that this forgery is absolutely airtight.

reading a forged weapons permit will tell you about the forgery, if you forged it yourself:

  • You can just about tell that this is a forgery, but only because it is one that you created yourself. It's a very convincing replica, though. (this failed right away)
  • You know this is a forgery because you can recognise your own handiwork, but you're confident that it would be extremely difficult for anybody else to spot.
  • This document is a masterpiece of counterfeiting and impossible to tell apart from the real thing. The only reason you can be sure is because you could recognise your own handiwork anywhere.

Failing a forgery

A forgery that is anything less than airtight is very likely to fail, though keenest of eyes permits (the second strongest) may also be reliable. The forged permit will be confiscated, but not the weapon - note that this will leave you without a permit, and the next guard you see will confiscate your weapons.

The Imperial guard scowls at you.
The Imperial guard asks in Agatean with a Bes Pelargic accent: Some of your paperwork appears to have been fabricated, so I'll just hold on to it. You don't mind, do you, SamTheMan Quinnina?
The Imperial guard exclaims in Agatean with a Bes Pelargic accent: You seem to be in possession of some restricted items, SamTheMan Quinnina!
The Imperial guard says in Agatean with a Bes Pelargic accent: It appears that you don't have the proper paper work to carry a tanto.
The Imperial guard says in Agatean with a Bes Pelargic accent: As soon as the paper work clears, we'll be able to confiscate that.
