A divining bob is a leather cord looped through with a simple silver ring. It is an item that witches can use to determine enchantment levels.

Use

The bob can be used to determine the room enchantment level of the current room, via the syntax 'dangle bob'. Alternately, it can be used to determine the item enchantment level of an object via 'dangle bob over <item>'.

Acquisition

Divining bobs are sold by Hilta Goatfounder and Mama Diksha.

Readings

If the room enchantment level in the area is normal then it gives the message:

The divining bob dangles at the end of its cord in a most unspectacular fashion.

Otherwise each line is displayed if there are at least the minimum number of thaums as follows:

Min Message
1 The divining bob sways gently in a circle at the end of its cord.
2 The divining bob sways gently in a circle at the end of its cord.
6 The divining bob sways gently in a circle at the end of its cord.
17 The divining bob swings around in a circle at the end of its cord.
38 The divining bob swings around in a circle at the end of its cord.
75 The divining bob swings around in a circle at the end of its cord.
137 The divining bob swings vigorously in a circle at the end of its cord.
241 The divining bob swings vigorously in a circle at the end of its cord.
422 The divining bob swings vigorously in a circle at the end of its cord.
770 The divining bob hums fearfully as it zips around in a circle at the end of its cord.
End The divining bob twitches and comes to a rest at the end of its cord, spent.

The ending line is always there between 1 and 1000 thaums.

When there are more than 1000 thaums there's only this line:

The divining bob bobs anxiously on the end of its cord.

You can also 'dangle divining bob over <object>' which uses the same scale.
