A cracked ocarina is a special musical instrument that can be used to summon your mount.

Description

This oval ceramic wind instrument looks rather old. At one point, a horse seems to have been carved into the side, but the details are worn away and the deeper etchings are caked black with years of dirt. A hairline crack curls around it, barely missing the horse carving's head.
The cracked ocarina is about six inches long and about four inches wide. It is made of ceramic and appears to be a musical instrument from the wind family. It is in excellent condition.

Summoning your mount

Playing the ocarina when your mount is not with you summons after a couple of heartbeats.

  • A high bonus in cr.mu.in.wi is not needed; it will work to summon your horse even with no levels in the skill
    • Obviously, you will not get the cool "play" messages if you don't know how to use the instrument, however!
  • You do however have to have enough ad.mo.riding.horse/camel skill for your mount to be responsive. That is if you often fail to be able to lead your mount, you will also have difficulty calling your mount.
  • This seems to work regardless of where your horse or yourself are. (This means everywhere.) If you find a situation where this doesn't work please add a note.
  • This is more convenient than using su to bring your horse to you.
  • Doors will "slam open" under your incoming mount's speed, and other mobs or players in the room can be bowled over.
Success
You hold a cracked ocarina in your right hand and left hand.
As you play, your mind drifts to Frazyl's Hon the bay dun horse and you weave a wordless call into the tune.
A lilting melody sounds from your cracked ocarina as you play it, the flourishes at the end of each bar resembling a welcoming whinny.
You put the cracked ocarina in a pocket in the dark green spider silk robe.
The music echoes, mingling with the faint sound of hoofbeats in the distance.
Frazyl's Hon the bay dun horse gallops in from the north at high speed.
Failure
You hold a cracked ocarina in your right hand and left hand.
As you play, your mind drifts to your buckskin horse and you weave a wordless call into the tune.
You haltingly play the same six notes on your cracked ocarina over and over.
Nothing happens.

Ghost of the ocarina

After many uses, on the 50th successful wordless call, this happens:

You hold a cracked ocarina in your right hand and left hand.
You try to weave a wordless call into the tune as you've done many times before, but the cracked ocarina gives up the ghost and shatters in your hands. Guided by instinct, you instead raise your face to the sky and call Frazyl's Hon the bay dun horse with your voice.
You shout: Come, Frazyl's Hon!
You play a monotonous tune on your cracked ocarina.
The shout echoes, mingling with the faint sound of hoofbeats in the distance.
The cracked ocarina breaks!
Frazyl's Hon the bay dun horse gallops in from the east at high speed.

After this happens, you can shout or lsay your horse's name and it will come!

  • There's still a skill check, you can fail this. (ad.mo.riding.horse/camel)
  • The exclamation point helps with the skill check.
  • This uses 30 adventuring guild points.
You yell in Djelian: Come Frazyl's Hon!
The shout echoes, mingling with the faint sound of hoofbeats in the distance.
Frazyl's Hon the bay dun horse gallops in from the west at high speed.

You loudly exclaim: Come Frazyl's Hon!
The shout echoes, mingling with the faint sound of hoofbeats in the distance.
Frazyl's Hon the bay dun horse gallops in from the north at high speed, almost knocking you over.

This new ability seems to work everywhere like the cracked ocarina. This ability to call your mount by name with lsay/shout is tied to you not to the mount you learn it with. This means if you replace your mount, you do not have to go through the ocarina process again.
