On the map, it is referred to as "mountains".
In the part of the long description of a terrain room that describes which terrains are nearby, it shows up as "a range of rolling mountainous hills" when seen from the same terrain, and "a range of rolling mountainous hills" or the specific name of the mountain range when seen from a different terrain.

- Bears: adult black, brown, and grizzly bears and cubs
- Birches
- Blackbirds
- Caladriuses ("pure white bird")
- Deer: does, bucks, and fawns
- Eagles

Of those, adult bears are sometimes aggressive (and can be whether or not there are cubs around), but do not pursue. Adventurous bear cubs may appear to be alone, but there is generally an adult nearby.
Birds are strictly diurnal and disappear during the night.
Harvests
You can gather mushrooms here. However, in winter, the mushrooms may be hidden under snow. You can also get rocks here. In the spring, you can find snowdrops.
Adjoining terrains
For the most part, they are surrounded by plains. The Morpork Mountains also have cabbage fields on their northeast edge, as do the Carrack Mountains all along their west edge. The Carrack Mountains join Skund Forest to the south, and the Ankh River goes through them, more or less bisecting them horizontally.
Special features
This type of terrain is only barely mountainous. That is to say, you can't journey through it, but climbing is not required to move between rooms, and the map command gives you a full map instead of the partial one you get in higher mountains.
