Yo-yos
A yo-yo is a toy which a player can use to attempt/perform various tricks.
To successfully attempt/perform a trick, the player must succeed skill checks.

Red vs Yellow
There are two different yo-yos. The original red yo-yo and the newer Ephebian yellow yo-yo. At first look they appear to be quite similar but they have slightly differing tricks and use different syntax.

The Tricks
'We need a table here of each trick performed on both yo-yos that shows the minimum bonus to succeed.' I believe that 200 bonus is enough to succeed all the time on all the tricks.
Red Yo-yo | Yellow Yo-yo | Skill TM Minimum |
---|---|---|
attempt <string> trick with <object> | perform <string> trick with <object> | |
yoyo trick | yoyo trick | |
walk the dog trick | climb the pyramid trick | [3] |
snap trick | snap trick | |
around the disc trick | around the disc trick | |
rocking cradle trick | swim the djel trick | [2] |
write your name trick | write your name trick | 200 co.ma.sl [1] |
thwack <living> with <object> | thwack <living> with <object> |
[1] Not confirmed recently. I just remember this was the target long ago. --Emily
[2] fi.ra.th 23/117 with co.ma.sl 10/56 is not enough to succeed with rocking or swim. It is enough to succeed with the easier tricks. Definitely not enough for the name trick.
[3] fi.ra.th 10/52 with co.ma.sl 10/52 is enough to sometimes perform "walk the dog/climb the pyramid", and always enough to perform easier tricks.
Failures
- The bright red yo-yo is not a holy item.
- The red yo-yo uses 'attempt' not 'perform'
- Your attempts to perform a trick with the bright yellow yo-yo fail miserably, as it is not a recognised trick.
- Either you have chosen a trick exclusive to the other yo-yo or perhaps have made a typo.
- You try to attempt a trick with your yo-yo, however, you succeed only in convincing the watching crowd of your lack of skill with the yo-yo.
- You are lacking in a needed skill.
- While attempting the hardest trick with the bright yellow yo-yo you bind your legs together and fall to the floor with a THUMP! Turning crimson, you cringe in embarrassment as passersby stop and giggle.
- Name trick is the most difficult.
- Your coordination is too poor, owing to you being tired.
- You are out of gp.
Acquisition
Red yo-yos can easily be purchased in Ankh-Morpork, Dejlibeybi and the Ramtops. See Kefka's Item Database. Yellow yo-yos have only been found in Ephebe.
