A yellow stone ring is a magical ring which provides a source of light for its wearer, at a cost of some of their GP.

Usage and effects

To use a yellow stone ring, simply wear it. It will immediately cause the wearer to glow with enough light to see by in night-time conditions. Whilst worn, it consumes the GP of the caster, taking 30 GP immediately, and then again at random intervals between 30 and 60 seconds, until the ring is removed or until the wearer doesn't have the required 30 GP when the ring attempts to drain, in which case the light flickers out and the ring stops consuming GP. Once the light flickers out, in order to make the ring glow again, the wearer must remove it and put it back on.

Unlike the blue and pink crystal rings, yellow stone rings do not have consumed magical charges on use, nor do they require a skillcheck against magic.items.worn.ring.

Yellow stone rings are in plentiful supply about the Disc, and can be bought from most shops that sell light sources. They typically retail for approximately &&&&&&&&&&&+2000 AM$5.

Specific locations include:

  • The well illuminated stall on the northwest side of Ohulan Cutash market square.
  • A shabby stall on Market Street in Ankh-Morpork.
