PARRY TEST #1

Weapons or weapon types might have innate parry bonuses or penalties we don't know about.

I Picked two seemingly identical weapons (weight, dimensions, weapon type), one whose descriptions makes it sound like it would be good at parrying and one that doesn't mention it.

There was no significant difference between them, if anything the one whose description did not mention parry at all did better.

fighting.defence.parrying 193 271 fighting.special.tactics 608 401

(fighting.melee.dagger 11 66) (fighting.special.weapon 456 388)

Con: 8 Dex: 17 Int: 10 Str: 21 Wis: 9 Hgt: 174 cm Wgt: 90.6 kg

Burden: 17%

attitude = neutral response = parry parry = both attack = both focus = neck

Fighting an OC Town Guard wielding a Long_sword, with nothing in his other hand, and not attacking with his other hand.

Using one Fencing_dagger in each hand ... {

 normal = 150,
 easily = 5,
 just = 28,
 deftly = 30

} Parry failures = 90

Total = 213/303 = 70.3%

Using Dagger in each hand ... {

 normal = 160,
 easily = 4,
 just = 28,
 deftly = 30

} Parry failures = 82

Total = 222/304 = 73%

PARRY TEST #2

Everything exactly the same as above except the weapons I used to parry, which are identical in weight, material, dimensions, hands, but of different weapon classes. Neither of their descriptions says anything about parry.

With one Klatchian Steel hatchet in each hand... {

 normal = 185,
 easily = 7,
 just = 12,
 deftly = 59

}

Parry failures = 57

Total = 263/320 = 82.2%

Just as I started the dirk test I got a TM so I had to restart it and then redo the hatchet test with the new bonus as I couldn't reduce my bonus back to 271 for the dirks. Keeping the above to compare with 273 bonus hatchet parry.

Below here, -> fighting.defence.parrying 194 273

With one Klatchian Steel dirk in each hand... {

 normal = 197,
 easily = 7,
 just = 12,
 deftly = 49

} Parry failures = 58

Total = 265/323 = 82%

With one Klatchian Steel hatchet in each hand... {

 normal = 161,
 easily = 7,
 just = 13,
 deftly = 65

} Parry failures = 63

Total = 246/309 = 79.6%

Conclusion: Absolutely none, lol. Going to try and get a different set up of NPCs so I can gather larger samples faster and remove the possible confusion of me also attacking because I have AP left over.

PARRY TEST #3

Previous research by Chat, filed under Research:Judge, indicated that a weapon's parry rating was 99% of the time determined entirely by i) its weight and ii) the maximum number of hands it could be held in.

I was looking for more weapons with similar characteristics to compare the parry of when I noticed that the Glaive and the Eagle_shestopyor had significantly different 'ease-of-parry' ratings in spite of their having exactly identical weights and number of hands.

I tested them against an OC town guard wielding a long sword and the glaive did significantly better.

//

glaive...{

 normal = 149,
 easily = 7,
 just = 4,
 deftly = 120

} Parry failures = 42

Total = 280/322 = 87%

//

eagle...{

 normal = 214,
 easily = 12,
 just = 22,
 deftly = 64

} Parry failures = 90

Total = 312/402 = 77.6%

//

It is not really suprising that the weapons actually performed differently but I think it is quite interesting that it is included in the ease-of-parry rating. We ought to be able to isolate quite a few variables by looking for weapons with inexplicably differing parry judges.

The most interesting other pair of similar weapons is sadly one that I cannot accurately test because I use one of the weapons melee types, H sword.

The weapons are the Faith_pole and the Daikatana_(custom_weapon)

If anyone with non existant H sword and polearm bonuses, some parry, and preferably a fair bit of tactics, is interested in comparing these two send me a mudmail and I will lend you a Daikatana and a Faith pole and a set of triggers to count the combat results, and GFR the weapons for you.

Thankyou
