Performing
This ritual costs 120 GP, and is not performed on anything, although it affects human corpses in the room.
It requires the powers of speech, movement, and sight.
Skills
This ritual uses faith.rituals.special, faith.rituals.misc.area, and faith.rituals.defensive.area.
Components
- A holy symbol
- A prayer book containing the prayer "Piercing the Veil"
- A dagger (which doesn't require a sharp edge)
- A lit candle (which must be lit performing the ritual, and which will not be dowsed automatically)
Performing messages
Performing
You speak the prayer of separation. You hum a hymn of binding. You heat the copper fighting knife over the candle flame. You carve a glyph into the decapitated corpse of a poor beggar with the copper fighting knife.
Success
The decapitated corpse of a poor beggar crumbles to dust, seemingly drained of something vital.
Failure
You feel weakened from the strain of trying to bring back the dead.
Note: Failing badly enough, such that you get this message instead of the generic ritual failure message, damages your constitution.
What others see
Details needed.
Spectres
While they can be ordered to attack, spectres will also automatically assist you in combat, but if you want them to defend you, you'll need to order them to do that specifically. Despite what the syntax suggests, spectres only defend and do not protect. They can parry or block on your behalf but they do not parry unarmed.
Being undead, they cannot be healed in the normal fashion and only heal with time.
Duration
Spectres can last a fairly long time if not killed or dismissed, depending on the summoner's skills. Feeding spectres GPs extends their life just as with other minions.
Leaving
It looks like this when the spectre's time runs out:
The groaning spectre fades nearly to nothingness as it prepares to depart. The groaning spectre groans. The groaning spectre dies. The groaning spectre shimmers and fades from existence.
When they leave, they drop their inventories to the ground.
Wards
This ritual cannot be bestowed as a ward.
Notes
- If you try to summon another minion while controling a spectre, you can lose control of the spectre, causing it to turn on you. Unlike dooms, they will not leave after getting in a few hits, but will follow you around attacking you for a few minutes. research If this has been marked on a page, it's because there was something that probably isn't known, that the person who edited the page thinks could be found out. Perhaps you could figure this thing out, and be famous evermore. You won't be able to order them to leave at this point, although losing them may or may not work. research If this has been marked on a page, it's because there was something that probably isn't known, that the person who edited the page thinks could be found out. Perhaps you could figure this thing out, and be famous evermore.
- Multiple spectres may be summoned at once. The ritual will automatically attempt to use as many human corpses as possible.
- If you are using the Squirming black tentacle and performing from a baton, wield the baton in the hand that does not have the tentacle and the candle in the one that has the tentacle if you are fast enough you can light the candle before it is fumbled. This prevents the candle from being auto-extinguished.
- if you wield candle in left hand, light candle and then wield baton in left hand there's major chance that "you" will extinguish the candle when it is put down.
