I have heard that the EFF uses the wizard's AP to block, and can therefore interfere with wizards who also use melee combat. Is this true? -TherionAndAlts 00:56, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes - both EFF and Grammer Scorbic's Household Guard consume AP when up; the household guard article already has notes to that effect. --Chat 17:12, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

It's not quite as simple as EFF / HHG using AP, as not having any AP doesn't hinder their ability to block, and having lots of tactics bonus doesn't mean you can block more. I think it's one of two kludges (the other is the disabling of melee defences when the floater is up) that are intended to distinguish the magic and melee fighting styles.
