I noticed an observation I made today on AP+EFF, which I've documented [[here|Research:Endorphin%27s_Floating_Friend#EFF_and_Effects_on_Fighting]]. It might be worth using a slightly-less blocking shield if you like to melee. You're still not going to be able to take on a nob group, but might make it earlier to clean up after a few PFGs. I have heard that the EFF uses the wizard's AP to block, and can therefore interfere with wizards who also use melee combat. Is this true? -TherionAndAlts 00:56, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes - both EFF and Grammer Scorbic's Household Guard consume AP when up; the household guard article already has notes to that effect. --Chat 17:12, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

It's not quite as simple as EFF / HHG using AP, as not having any AP doesn't hinder their ability to block, and having lots of tactics bonus doesn't mean you can block more. I think it's one of two kludges (the other is the disabling of melee defences when the floater is up) that are intended to distinguish the magic and melee fighting styles. I noticed an observation I made today on AP+EFF, which I've documented here. It might be worth using a slightly-less blocking shield if you like to melee. You're still not going to be able to take on a nob group, but might make it earlier to clean up after a few PFGs. Venia (talk) 20:14, 25 October 2021 (EDT)
