Talk:Description line

I don't have them to hand right now, but the "stick" log on toy adds a line, and I believe retracted lion paws do too. Rehevkor 14:19, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Oh yeah, I forgot about those! Adding the stick one... I don't have lion paws. --Ilde 21:42, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Several items of clothing for example like the tiger tail and cat ears from the shop on Endless street in Ankh-Morpork near Goosemongers Yard give desc lines. Also the fairy wings from the gothic clothing shop on Phedre Road. Some pieces of jewellery from Libby Twickle adds desc lines too. Frazyl 22:55, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Cool, I've added those... I haven't tried all the kinds of jewellery, though. Any suggestions on which ones I should order, besides the acorn brooch? --Ilde 00:32, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
There was a cool page at http://casaubons.darkmud.co.uk/libby_twickle.html (and another page before that) that had all the details... Not working now... Frazyl 00:47, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Aw, too bad... I can't find a mirror of the site, either. :/ I guess I'll just have to order things and see. --Ilde 00:55, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Well as I recall, acorn gives elvish feeling, filigree gives a sense of beauty, just crystal allows you to search for the temperature of someone, star makes purple flashing skin, teardrop allows you to send a message with bubbles and lots of them give chats. Frazyl 17:42, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
I didn't know you could send messages with them... I'll have to try that with the ones I bought (I got one of each, so...). --Ilde 21:46, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

There's also a line for broken legs somewhere. There's a line for witch warts but I'm not sure if it's before or after the tatoos line. Frazyl 00:47, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Well, I can get a tattoo for my witch character and see. :) --Ilde 00:55, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
ETA: Witch warts are before tattoos, even if you get the tattoo before becoming a witch. --Ilde 01:42, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I think it would be good to be able to sub sort spells by witch/wizard and rituals by gods, but I'm not sure how best to accomplish this with the sorter thingy. It could be <god> ritual and <witch/wizard> spell by then you can't sort only by spell/ritual... Well another column might do it but be overkill for those who don't have those. Frazyl 17:11, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I think there's also a line for when you're poisoned. You don't feel well or something. Possibly also for hiding/faded. Frazyl 17:11, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I'll see if I can find those, then... I know where I can get briefly poisoned. --Ilde 21:46, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm... well, if there's a line for being poisoned, it doesn't show up when you look at yourself. Neither do fading/hiding (although those show up in your score). --Ilde 22:36, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok hiding doesn't show anything, poison might not... Maybe I was thinking of cold/hot lines, possibly having a cold (staying wet in a cold place too long or using souls on Pewsey at Esme's) adds a line. Will test later. Fading though does: "She is not here." I'm gl 302 and score says "You aten't here." Frazyl 03:52, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Really? I didn't see anything like that when I faded and looked at myself... then again I can only get "clear as day", so maybe it only works if you're good at it. --Ilde 04:46, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Woops! Sorry, I forgot my alias for fade is fade into the foreground by not here. This syntax changes your position so it was the position line.
Ah! That makes sense... do you know of any ways to get broken legs besides 1)crashing your broom, 2)werewolves, or 3)the True Alchemist quest? I tried attacking Angua with a test alt, but she just knocked me over the head and arrested me. --Ilde 08:09, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Broomstick is surely easiest, just ask me in game and I can give you a broomstick with 1 gp fueled, then fly anywhere with a witch test alt. Alternatively, you can go to the path leading to the grflex lair, at some point you can go down but that breaks your legs, a bit before the tree I think or possibly a bit after. Though that will most likely lead to death by grflx unless you have a floater and blue ring out fast enough. To get Angua to break your legs you need protection from losing too much hp (at 0 hp you give up) but no floaters, Angua can break your legs across CCC and bugshield for instance. Frazyl 17:34, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Oh, yeah! I forgot you could deliberately crash that way... I'll do that. --Ilde 23:15, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I tried the broomstick thing and it didn't work. I just got, "As you run up and down with your broom between your knees it becomes apparent that you've run out of fuel." I guess I can try hedgehoging.... --Ilde 00:24, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Well you might need to put around 100 gp (half a flight) in the broom or so for it to take off and break your legs. I usually try to avoid broken legs. Frazyl 03:16, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
I did try it with 100 gp (as well as with 1 gp). But, I was able to get broken legs through hedgehogging, so I guess it's a moot point. --Ilde 03:20, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Heh, not important anymore, but an easy non-life-threatening way to break your legs as a witch is to fly to Mr Pin or Mr Tulip and curse in front of them. Tulip will break both your legs with his crowbar. --Tabs 6:52, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Oooh there's also when you open the trap from the cellar east outside Granny's that gives you lots of soot as a desc line. Possibly the same or not as when you go inside the flue at the top of the Creel Springs wiz guild that brings you to IIL in Djb. Frazyl 17:37, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Another one to try, then. :) --Ilde 23:15, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Couldn't get it to do anything... I did get the Creel Springs one, though. And it looks like colds aren't visible. --Ilde 01:17, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Priest ritual adds a line to a corpse

There's a ritual that adds the line "It seems to glow from within with golden light" to a corpse. A priestess of Dhek (in Djelibeybi) performed it: "The pious priestess utters a prayer, raising her hands up to the sky. >The corpse of a farmer begins to glow with a soft, golden light." I don't know if that counts. --Tabs 07:46, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Interesting! Did the corpse disappear after that? I know they come and do some kind of ritbury thing (only not... theirs takes it away I think) if you leave a corpse too long. --Ilde 16:10, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Not this one. I stood around for a few minutes and eventually buried the corpse, which still had that line of description. Usually when priests do a ritual to a corpse it goes away. Maybe this one was a bug or something; I'll see if I can get a priest to do the ritual again. --Tabs 10 21:02 10 November 2010 (UTC)
I guess I didn't wait long enough last time. After about six minutes, the corpses disappear:
The pious priestess cries out to the sky and gestures at the area surrounding her.
The corpse of a business-like bearded man and the corpse of a stinking vagabond begins to glow with a soft, golden light.
The pious priestess recites a prayer.
The pious priestess calls upon Hat for protection.
[...]
The golden light surrounding the corpse of a business-like bearded man gets brighter and brighter until it is completely obscured. After a few seconds the light dissipates, leaving nothing behind.
The golden light surrounding the corpse of a stinking vagabond gets brighter and brighter until it is completely obscured. After a few seconds the light dissipates, leaving nothing behind.
Cannot find "corpses", no match.
Tabs 1:09, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Oooooo. So I guess it's some kind of... slow ritbury? Did you check if you can recover the corpses after that? Oh! Or whether it's possible to ritbury (or even just get gp when you bury) them while they're glowing? Maybe I'll go kill something in DJB and lurk around the corpse. :P ...Do you think it would be better to put corpse-specific lines here, in Description line (item), or in their own page? --Ilde 02:08, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I guess so, since I couldn't recover the corpses. And as far as I know, at least two deities grant it, including Hat, but I scanned a list of Hat-granted rituals but there wasn't anything like what the priests performed. Special Djelian ritual/command? I think corpse-specific lines should go under Description line (item), since a corpse is an item. If they went on their own page, it'll be a pretty short page, since the only other corpse-specific description line I know is when it's going to undergo vampirification. --Tabs 3:53, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I think it must be specific to DJB priests, yeah... like that shield-destroying thing the oasis mystics do (they're actually Gufnorkians, but Gufnorkian players don't get any ritual that does that).
Sounds good; I'll add corpse stuff to the page when I figure out what order it's in.
--Ilde 04:06, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
ETA: Oh! I guess the ritual/command/whatever has even more variety...
The pious priestess raises her hands imploringly up to the sky and beseeches Hat for a boon.
The corpse of a shy old woman begins to glow with a soft, golden light.
This is the dead body of a shy old woman.
It appears to be missing its heart.
It seems to glow from within with golden light.
Carrying: a pair of soft leather sandals.
Furthere ETA: This corpse actually decayed normally instead of disappearing in golden light.
--Ilde 04:32, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
There's also the one from earlier: "The pious priestess utters a prayer, raising her hands up to the sky." I assumed that the... uh, look of the ritual/command/thing was the same for the priesthood of the same god (so in this case, Hat), but I guess not. Baffling. --Tabs 6:52, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Hattian guards

Alright, so I've seen a few Hattian guards with with an extra line (it shows up before the underwear-party-hat line). This seems to change every time you look, and the last one I saw it on was an "inebriated" Hattian guard (not all guards have it... I'm not sure if all inebriated ones do). It can look like any of these:

  • His face looks slightly flushed.
  • He seems to be swaying slightly.
  • He looks quite merry.
  • His nose is an amusing red colour.
  • He looks slightly the worse for wear.
  • He looks slightly unsteady on his feet.

Anyone know what causes that? I didn't see him wearing anything special (that is, anything that the other guard who didn't have that line wasn't wearing), and he had a separate line for his Major Shield (it was the standard Hat one), so I don't think it was that. --Ilde 05:58, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

This was blogged about: [1]. I haven't seen them but I assume they're somewhere in Djelibeybi? It might just be that they were like that a long time ago or some such. Could be the effect of an item, a ritual or something they drink maybe? --Frazyl 07:14, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Yep, they wander around DJB. I'm just wondering what it is that gives them the line. I don't really want to put "unknown" for the source. --Ilde 08:14, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Shiny black berries

How do you get the pupil effect from the shiny black berries? It seems like no matter how many I eat, the effect wears off immediately....

>eat berries
Everything becomes brighter, if a little fuzzier.
Your vision returns to normal and you stop sweating.
You pop many shiny black berries into your mouth. Sliding down your throat, the sweet juices spill out in an orgy of taste and delight.

I've got the right forest, and it is summer. --Ilde 22:42, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes it seems not to do anything to me either. After eating a number of them it also runtimed, which I bugged, but I wasn't sure if it was otherwise buggy that it wouldn't work on me. In theory I think that these should be the same berries as from CTF...

So anyway it does the pupil effect on human npcs in Lancre. If you give many or just one for my fruitbat there's also other poison-like effects. --Frazyl 23:24, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Huh, that's weird... I didn't know it was even possible for an effect to work on npcs and not players (barring, you know, pk/npk barriers). I'll bugrep that, then. ETA booooo why do I keep getting logged out. :( --Ilde 02:34, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
