Start location

People keep making the start location claim, but I have never seen it happen. Is it possibly a high skill check? Or just a misconception? It used to be just start location based, but that was changed many, many years ago. Rehevkor 19:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Well I've had a 316 bonus for a long time and while I don't use my blue rings often I don't think they ever brought me to the Hub. My guess is that it sends you to a room that's loaded in memory but it's plausible that they added dangerous areas for a kind of low bonus partial failure thing. --Frazyl 22:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

It certainly used to take you to your start location, but as you say, that was a long time ago. When I've used it more recently, it seems to send you to random places (probably via the same algorithm that misflight/misportal uses - so to a random player). --Chat 23:38, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
I thought so too, but most times there's no player in the room you arrive in and as Ilde pointed out to me since it's an instant teleport there's no accounting for the lack of player when you arrive. In misflight and missportal there's often someone in the room and since they take a while to perform the player might have moved which explains when there isn't anyone. --Frazyl 03:15, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Background magic seems to be a large factor in where it takes you, the hub and the unreal estate being semi-frequent locations it's taken me, and others. It's possible it's for a highly enough skilled user it will operate like a misportal - lower skills it'll take you to an area of high magic? Rehevkor 16:28, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

I have a 200 bonus and it's never operated as a misportal for me (taking me to a player in some random location, that is). I've twisted it ~20 times, and so far, about 70% of the time it takes me to Holy Wood, 20% of the time it takes me to the idlechasing group in AM, and 10% of the time it's taken me to the Hub. Those are the only three locations I've ever been sent to. --RiverPhoenix 17:59, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
