Crystal balls

Are you sure it's checked against summoning? I'd have thought scrying would be a far more obvious choice... --Chat 17:07, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Abjuring is used to resist the scrying, perception is is used against summoning to see the distortions there might be another couple of skillchecks in there too.

Very well then - just wanted to be sure it wasn't a mistype. FYI, you can indent your paragraphs by putting a ':' in front of them (or :: for two indents, ::: for three, etc.); it's also helpful if you sign your talk edits (you can do this by putting '~~~~' in after your edit). --Chat 23:09, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

"Earitating Student" TM

After solving the "Earitating Student" quest in the Listening Monk's temple, I was given 3 levels of ad.pe. Is this known? Is it a set reward, or just a random anomaly? (Belated signature, go!) EdwardTohr 18:51, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

I've seen a similar mention for Tree Trimmer: "You might be rewarded with 5 tree climbing levels." This sounds like either unconfirmed or the reward might depend on your current skill level not being too high or something. But it would support the idea that some quests give minor skill rewards.

It's been mentioned before that when you are very low level (maybe below 5 or 10?) you can get a few levels for some actions or quests for instance for perception when placing eyes on the low altar of Io in his temple in Ankh-Morpork. When you already have guild maxed the skills it doesn't add more though. --Frazyl 08:45, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Hmm. Considering I was guildmaxed, and went to level 28, it doesn't seem to fit the low-level pattern... I've got an alt with even more perception (47 or so) that I can test it with. EdwardTohr 18:51, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Guildmaxed (25 levels) is not generally considered to be a great amount of perception. Zexium 19:52, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Io Altar

I got a ad.per TM from the Low Altar of Io when the eyes placed floated away. Is this the only part where they TM? If so, perhaps it should be noted that they do so, else some would think to just place the eyes and leave (like Sek's Low Altar)

Night vision?

Avenged reports that he has observed a distinct improvement in night vision while using 'watch high', implying that ad.pe plays a role in determining the light level threshold at which you can see. --Pteri 19:16, 4 April 2021

Yes, you have a better chance of seeing in the dark the room or other things when you have higher perception.
It should be noted that it's not see or not see, every time you try to look in the dark you pass a skillcheck to see or fail. You can thus spam look and sometimes see even if you fail most of the time.
Bronze helm increase either your perception or just to light sensitivity. It also makes it easy for you to be blinded due to too much light. Didn't test this much because wearing the helm a lot can easily kill you when you get distracted.
Dwarfish goggles prevent you from going blind, but reduces you perception.
