Long Description

This six-foot-long harpoon is forged out of a single piece of steel, making it quite a bit heavier but pack more of a punch than the traditional wooden-shafted ones. On its business end is a sharp steel tip with the distinctive hooked edge that allows harpoons to embed themselves into flesh, and on its other end is a long rope, meant for pulling back the harpoon after a throw.

Appraises As

The steel harpoon is about six feet long and about an inch wide. It is made of steel and could be used as a weapon of type polearm.

Notes

The steel harpoon can be thrown, after several(?   research If this has been marked on a page, it's because there was something that probably isn't known, that the person who edited the page thinks could be found out. Perhaps you could figure this thing out, and be famous evermore. ) rounds you will automatically yank the harpoon back into your hands.

throw harpoon at fat hog
You prepare to throw your steel harpoon at the fat hog.
You throw your steel harpoon at the fat hog.
The steel harpoon pierces the fat hog's neck.
....
You jab the fat hog in the neck.
You yank the rope trailing from your steel harpoon and it flies back into your hand.

You do not have to be in the same room as your opponent in order to yank the harpoon back.

If you leave the room and hide or set up an ambush, the yank will take you out of hiding. (With about a 190 bonus in co.ma.sleight-of-hand, it is doubtful if this affects it but more   research If this has been marked on a page, it's because there was something that probably isn't known, that the person who edited the page thinks could be found out. The steel harpoon also returns to the user immediately upon death of the opponent it was thrown at.

The steel harpoon additionally returns to the user's inventory immediately upon another player picking it up off the ground on a missed throw (the harpoon will be on the ground like any other missed thrown weapon). Good to know that other players can not potentially steal an extremely expensive item laying on the ground that is tethered to you. There is no message to the other player that it is no longer in their inventory from their view. It simply ceases to exist in their inventory but the original owner still gets the yank message.

For unarmed or non-polearm users it should be noted that you can not hurl (like knives from a knife belt) the harpoon from a sheathe (hunter's pack, staff harness...etc) but must draw and then "throw" it.

An alias such as "th: draw harpoon;throw harpoon at opponent $*$" is recommended to avoid having a round or 2 of polearm combat used if you are not a polearm user. And also having an alias set up to sheathe the harpoon as it will return DIRECTLY to the hand you threw it from. However, it will return to your inventory if you occupy the hand it was thrown from with something else prior to yanking it back to you. And if you threw from one hand and occupy that same hand with something besides the harpoon, the harpoon will not return to your opposite hand even if it is available.

Sometimes you might fail to throw the harpoon and see a message like so:

You don't feel it's right to throw your steel harpoon at the Imperial guard

This seems to be failing a certain skillcheck but it is not sure what it is at this point   research If this has been marked on a page, it's because there was something that probably isn't known, that the person who edited the page thinks could be found out. Perhaps you could figure this thing out, and be famous evermore.
