Research:Squirming black tentacle
A Klein bottle bugfix has made it so that it is possible to attack with the hand holding the bottle and the tentacle arm together. This means that attack speed is the same as the lion paws now but some of the attacks are standard punch attacks (if attacking with both hands). A reputable source has confirmed that it is intended that the squirming black tentacle has lower damage than the lion paws and that is because the item is tradeable and the lion paws are not. - Toffee 16/02/20
With 14 str the tentacle seems to save me 1% burden when equipped (against the lion paws). - Toffee 15/01/20
A more thorough test between the squirming black tentacle and the lion paws was carried out (with the kind help of Pokey).
Approximately 100 hits were recorded with the tentacle attacks and 100 hits with the punch and claw attacks of the lion paws. Pokey had no defence skills active and no armour. The tentacle was charged 10 times before the fight. Also exact hp loss per hit was able to be recorded unlike the previous test.
The result was an average damage of 204hp per hit with the tentacle attacks and an average of 216hp (211hp without extreme flukes) per hit with the punch and claw attacks. The damage for the lion paws varied widely while the tentacle had much more consistent damage. The lion paws attacked faster than the single tentacle.
The tentacle seems to do slightly less damage than the lion paws but, as previously noted, should be overall better against most armour types and trolls due to being only blunt damage. - Toffee 12/01/20

It is possible to cast OBBK with one tentacle (possibly two) but the tentacle attacks don't trigger the OBBK boost to damage. - Toffee 09/01/20
Despite it's constant unique enchantment description line always reading "Writhing octarine light spills from it, barely contained by its physical boundaries.", it is possible to enchant the item. This was checked with a thaumometer and at max enchantment it radiates six thaums per second. Whether this increases damage is uncertain at the moment. - Toffee 04/01/19

The most obvious take away is, that the tentacle requires a lot more tactics (uses more AP) than the lion paws. The damage is similar to the claw attacks although it was slighty lower at times, whether this was also a result of lack of tactics (or AP) I am not sure. Also the claw attacks on the lion paws do not always trigger but rather do (lower damage) normal punches sometimes, while the tentacle always has tentacle attacks (both have kick and knee attacks in addition). Also the blunt attacks from the tentacle should generally be superior against armour. - Toffee 04/01/20

have discovered Limdul and his straw dummy in the basement at djb guards. limdul seems to judge attacks based on your skill levels rather than damage, and implied strongly that my skills aren't high enough to make full use of the tentacle which is really interesting and not too surprising --Kimo (talk) 13:10, 20 March 2021 (EDT)
