Sausage Research

Regular Sausages

Flavoured Sausages

• To be confirmed, but is seems that spiced sausages are usually paid out $15 AM more than the unspiceded version Groth (talk) 00:16, 26 August 2017 (EDT)

• Always seems to be 4 hours to complete.

Flavours thus far:

• Basil, Caraway, Cardamom, Cheese, Cumin, Fennel, Ginger, Honey, Nutmeg, Oregano, Rosemary, Saffron, Sugar, Sumac, Thyme
• If one fails at mixing in a spice, then some of said spice is lost
• Having trouble mixing meat with a spice? Try making smaller wads to start with.

Meat grinder/extruder research

• 1 tiny hunk = 1 tiny wad (33 g) = not enough meat for even one sausage
• 2 tiny hunks = 1 small wad (66 g) = 1 sausage
• 3 tiny hunks = 1 small wad (99 g) = 1 sausage

• 1 small hunk = 1 small wad (100 g or 2/9 lb) = 1 sausage
• 2 small hunks = 1 small wad (6/9 lb) = short string (5) of sausages
• 3 small hunks = 1 small wad (8/9 to 1 lb) = short string (7) of sausages
• 4 small hunks = 1 regular wad (1 3/9 lb) = string (10) of sausages

• 1 regular hunk = 1 regular wad (1 6/9 to 1 7/9 lb) = string (14) of sausages
• 2 regular hunks = 1 regular wad (4 3/9 to 4 4/9 lb) = string (35) of sausages
• 3 regular hunks = 1 regular wad (5 2/9 to 5 3/9 lb) = string (43) of sausages

Hunk Size Research

For a given critter, what is most important bit to take if it is too large to cut up and put in the icebox. Note that the butchering bonus may assist in determining how "efficient" one is at acquiring meat from a given bit. In other words, a larger bonus may provide more meat for a corpse bit compared to a smaller bonus. Also, larger bonuses allow for butchering larger/heavier corpse pieces.

Deer (doe)

• Tiny -
• Small - ear, eye, genitals, heart, lung, nose, spleen, tongue
• Regular - brain, hoof, intestine, stomach, tail

Fox

• Tiny - ear, eye, nose, tongue
• Small - brain, genitals, head (parts missing), heart, intestine, kidney, leg (front), lung, spleen, tail, paw
• Regular - head (entire), leg (back)

Goat

• N/A - horn
• Tiny - eye
• Small - ear, genitals, heart, lung, nose, spleen, tongue
• Small or Regular - stomach
• Regular - brain, hoof, intestine, tail

Giant catfish

• Regular or large - spleen, liver, left kidney, right kidney. (All four together made 142 sausages.)

Hyena

• Tiny - ear, eye
• Small - genitals, tongue, nose
• Regular - brain, head, intestine

Pig (adult)

• Tiny - chop, eye, tail
• Small - ear, genitals, snout, spleen, tongue, trotter
• Regular - lung, stomach

Rat (large evil-looking)

• Tiny - ear, eye, kidney, nose, spleen
• Small - brain, heart, leg, lungs, intestine, tail
• Regular - leg

Rat (normal sized)

• Tiny - All corpse pieces; corpse (entire) if remove bits from it
• Small - corpse (entire)

Shark (Circle Sea)

• Tiny - eyes
• Small - spleen
• Regular ("at least 10") - kidneys, genitals
• Regular ("at least 20") - heart, gills (right and left), fins (right, left, and dorsal), liver
• Large - tail (made 54 sausages by itself)
• Very large - head (minus skull, eyes, and gills, it made 112 sausages by itself)

Brains and stomachs weren't available from this type of shark.

Sheep

• Tiny - eyes
• Small - ear, lungs, heart, kidney, stomach, tongue
• Regular - brain, tail

Snake (Genua garter snakes)

• Tiny - All corpse pieces; corpse (entire) if remove bits from it
• Small - corpse (entire)

Tortoise

• Tiny -

Turkey

Vulture

Whale (Circle Sea killer whale)

• Tiny - tail, tongue
• Small - kidneys, neck, brain, liver, genitals, intestine, pancreas, heart, fins, lungs, spleen
• Regular - head ("at least 10"), skin (minus head) ("at least 40")
• Very large - torso (minus organs)

Wolf

• Tiny - ear, eye, nose, tongue
• Small - genitals, lung, heart, intestine, spleen
• Regular - brain, paw, tail

Squids don't make mollusc sausages

Someone put in the chart that mollusc sausages could be made from giant squid - they can't. Giant squids make squid sausages and Sam won't accept those if you're on the mollusc mission. See:

"Sam Slager says with a Morporkian accent: This very long string of curry squid sausages isn't the type of sausages I asked for. I

Freshness

Sam will not accept sausages that are "too old", or ones that are made from hunks or wads of meat that are "too old", even if they've been kept fresh in an icebox:

Sam Slager says: This very long string of shark sausages smells a little too old to sell. I only accept freshly made sausages.

It therefore doesn't seem possible to save extra sausages for a future order.

He also does this if the sausages are freshly made (deboned, ground, extruded) from a corpse that was killed a while ago but kept fresh, so it seems the deciding factor is how long ago the creature was killed, not how long ago any of the actual sausage-making steps were done.
