Myrandil's Vicious Seizure (abbreviated as MVS) is an offensive wizard spell which causes the hands of the dead to erupt from the ground and grab the ankles of passersby, stopping them from leaving the room.
It should be noted that once someone has been grasped by hands, a check will be made each time the affected person tries to move out of the room. This consumes the GP of whoever is trying to escape, but this does mean several multiple checks can be forced by the same target in a short time period.
This spells has been changed on October 17 2011. It is thought that fighting.defence.dodging is now the skill used to avoid the hands and escape them, which is checked against the caster's magic.spells.offensive bonus.
Effects

A thin woman tries to leave, but is held in place by the hands. *snip* The hands slowly pull themselves back into the earth.
It can be used to immobilise many beings in the room or to lay a trap to npcs entering the room.
It can be used to immobilise Agateans before hitting them with damaging spells. The barge sailors in Ohulan-Cutash, however, are much better at running away.
Be aware that the strongarms in Ohulan-Cutash consider the spell an act of aggression and will attack if it is cast in their presence.
Casting
Costs 75gp per cast, and affects everyone in the room so long as there are enough hands summoned. No casting target/argument is therefore needed for the spell.

Casting messages
- Casting
You prepare to cast Myrandil's Vicious Seizure. You summon the spirits of the dead from below. You gesture grandly at the earth and command forth dead hands to grab your enemies. You send energy through the muscles and nerves of the hand and the fingers move in grasping motions. You send forth energy to animate the dead! You feel the ground underneath begin to boil...
- Success
Suddenly, twelve rotting, clutching hands burst from the ground. Two hands grab a short farmer, a fat merchant and an interesting peasant's ankles!
- Failure
Same as success, but the duration of the grip is less than a second.
- To others
Wizard moans weirdly. Wizard shouts at the ground. Wizard tickles herself with a dead hand. Wizard thrusts her hips in the air. The ground starts heaving underneath you!
- End of spell
The hands slowly pull themselves back into the earth.
