Congratulations! You managed to successfully throw a piece of clay onto a potters wheel without making a mess! Now what? Now it is time to mould that hunk of clay into an item.

See pottery for an overview on the pottery process and the syntax required to successfully make a pottery item.

The skillcheck for successfully moulding a pottery item is crafts.pottery.forming.shaping. More advanced items require a higher bonus than simpler items. Translation - just because you can form a plate doesn't mean an attempt at a fancy cabbage mug won't leave your clay splattered all over the wall. Additionally, a higher bonus is needed to form a higher quality item.

Quality

The message seen at the start and end of the moulding process provides a hint as to degree of success -

Failure

  • You set the wheel turning and start to mould the clay on it. Almost immediately, the clay is flung off it and splatters on the floor.

Worst/Low quality

  • You set the wheel turning with a slight wobble, and quickly start to mould something on it.
  • (A) You hastily stop the wheel turning as you finish moulding a somewhat deformed <item> from the clay. (or)
  • (B) You carelessly finish moulding a <item> and stop the wheel turning.

Moderate quality

  • With the wheel spinning, you start to mould something from the clay.
  • (A) You finish moulding the <item> and stop the wheel turning. (or)
  • (B) You finish moulding the <item> and skilfully stop the wheel turning.

High quality (A)

  • You expertly set the wheel in motion and start to mould the clay on it.
  • You add the finishing touches to the <item> and stop the wheel turning.

High quality (B)

  • With a slight wrist movement, you set the wheel in motion and expertly start to mould a <item> from some clay.
  • You deftly stop the wheel from turning as you finish moulding the <item>.

Below are basic descriptions of moulded items. Not included are the stain, glaze, or signing text which follow the initial item description.
