## Effects

This spell raises the enchantment level of the item it is cast upon, up to a limit determined by the caster's magic.spells.misc bonus and other factors listed below.

### Maximum enchantment obtainable

The magic.spells.misc bonus determines the percentage of the item's maximum enchantment capacity that can be reached, by the following formula:

 max enchantment percent = 18.5 + ma.sp.mi bonus/17.5

This is then multiplied by the item's total enchantment capacity (in thaums), and rounded down to the nearest thaum.

As lighter items have a relatively small total enchantment capacity (for example, the capacity of a 1lb item is 7 thaums, the capacity of a 20lb item is 50 thaums), the rounding down effect has a bigger relative impact on them. This is why it often seems 'harder' to enchant lighter items.

In effect, some Witches have been known to be able to enchant items to at least level 5.

### Room enchantment

The room enchantment level increases the max enchantment percent above by 1% for every 100 thaums present in the room.

Note that magic circles impart a random room enchantment level of 200-400 thaums for most witches, so casting this spell inside such a circle adds 2-4% to the maximum enchantment reachable.

Smashing a fully charged crystal shard adds 500 thaums to the circle, which adds a further 5% to the maximum enchantment reachable.

Casting in high magic rooms (such as those found near the hub) may therefore impart a better bonus than casting in a circle if you are willing to risk taking damage or losing limbs.

### Enchantment increase per cast

The enchantment increase per cast is proportional to the difference between the maximum enchantment level the witch can reach for the item, as determined above, and the item's current enchantment level.

Specifically, each cast increases the enchantment by 1/3 of this difference rounded down to the nearest thaum, or by 1 thaum if the difference is between 1 and 3 thaums.

## Notes

• The item being enchanted may be in the room with the caster rather than in their inventory. This is useful when enchanting very heavy items that impose a dex penalty when carried. Beware players or NPC's burying or taking them however.
