The Moonlit Market is a market that is held on the top floor (below the roof) of the Five Ways Bell Tower in Ankh-Morpork whenever there is a full moon and some days before/after it.

General information

  • The market lasts for the whole full moon, which is 3 or 4 days (Disc Time).
  • The vendors and wares available are largely assassin-oriented and include a few items with insignia from the Conlegium Sicariorum houses, although anyone with the skills to reach the market can shop there.
  • Engaging in combat in the presence of a guard will get you thrown off the tower (see below).

Access and leaving

To reach the Moonlit Market, go to

Five Ways in Ankh-Morpork.

Outside the bell tower, "climb up", which uses adventuring.movement.climbing.rock the first three climbs and adventuring.movement.climbing.rope to reach the top floor, which is a no-portal zone.

You can portal or fly to the ledge just below the market after the rock climbing, from where you only need to climb the rope.

If you want to leave by jumping (or are shoved off), you'll need skills in adventuring.acrobatics.tumbling.

  • It appears that 150 bonus is no longer enough to safely land unharmed. Research is needed to find the new safe bonus.
  • If you don't tumble successfully, you'll lose about 1000 hp and might break a leg.
  • You can also leave by climbing (rock) from the south alcove which is on the right. It is a no portal/fly zone, but you can portal or fly from this area. However you need balancing skills to prevent slipping off the tower and falling to the floor, taking damage.

Traders

There are a number of traders in the market.

  • They arrive gradually in the evening and leave gradually, and are gone by mid-morning.
  • Not all of them appear at the same time; there are eventually four or five in the market for a given night.
  • Every night the vendors and the alcove they are in change (though they can return on another night), as will their goods.
  • A vendor can appear when one stays in an alcove for a bit, but some vendors appear quite early and others quite late. It is usually worth it to stop in every alcove for 20-30 seconds when you arrive to the market or it has been a while that anyone has done so.
  • The exact inventory they sell refill after around 25-30 minutes.
  • When there is more than one copy of an item for sale and you just bought one you have to wait a few minutes to buy another copy of the same item to give a chance to someone else who would like to buy it to have one too.
  • For some very popular items like tiger fangs you can order one when the seller is in the market and the next night the seller returns you will be able to purchase in extra of the normal inventory.
  • Most things cost more than $50. The condition of the items is random and makes the prices vary a little.

Traders:

The type and amount of goods a peddler carries vary. It's possible one has a certain item one time, and next month they don't have it in stock. They replace their stock throughout the night so that they have the same items as when spawned, at intervals averaging 30 minutes round world time. Once you've bought an item from a trader, you have to wait a few minutes (five at most) if you want to buy another of that same item.

You can "order" one weapon from Oscar Singleton and "collect" it from him another night he turns up at the market. You can wait as long as you want to collect your item. You can only have one order active at a time and must collect it before placing another order.
