The glance command allows you to see the short description, also known as short name.

Syntax

glance                                      Take a quick look at the room you're
                                            currently in.
glance exit <exit>                          Take a quick look through an exit.
glance [at|in] <object>                     Take a quick look at something.
glance here                                 Take a quick look at the room you're
                                            currently in.
glance <exit>                               Take a quick look through an exit.

Using

You can just use glance, or just g, alone to see the room's short name.

You can also use it on exits to see the surrounding rooms, but if there's a door it will show you the door instead.

You can also use it on an object to see its short name, the one displayed on the room description or in the output of inventory.

     Glance is to be used to look at something briefly without being       
     noticed and without going through the long description.
