Skills
The following skills are used in the stages of this spell:
Levels of success
There are two levels of success in this spell. A full success will identify the artifact and charges remaining, and produce an extra line indicating that the caster will always recognize that particular artifact, permanently enabling the caster to recharge that artifact type. A 'half' success will identify the artifact and charges remaining, but the caster will have to re-identify it in the future until a full success is achieved.
The caster's ability to identify higher level artifacts is determined by their bonus in the relevant items skill, e.g. a high bonus in magic.items.held.wand is required to identify a balsa wand.
Example
You prepare to cast Fabrication Classification Identification on the red staff. You wonder about the red staff. You peer at the red staff, probing at its ticklish parts. You coax the red staff to make it reveal its basic identity. The weave indicates that the red staff is a Frottjor's staff, with eight charges remaining.
