Enraged giant Hogswatch tree

There is a giant Hogswatch tree in the centre of the Royal Market, Sto Lat.

The tree starts spawning on the 12th of December and stops spawning on the 31st of December. Those dates are server time, GMT.

As reported:

In their quest for civic festivities, the citizens of Sto Lat accidentally imported a sapient pine tree from the Forest of Skund. Don't worry! It will be completely safe unless anyone does anything stupid like poke it repeatedly.

When spawned, it looks like this:

Thirty feet tall and fifteen feet wide at its lowest branches, this imported Skund pine is perhaps the purest distilled expression of a municipal Hogswatch the Sto Plains have ever seen. Decked with tinsel and magical lights and hams and packet upon packet of sausages, it's sure to bring a fond tear to the eye of anyone prone to recalling the Hogswatches of their youth through rosy hindsight. At the base, a plaster diorama of the Hogfather, his sleigh, and his adorable pink pigs guards a huge pile of gaily coloured presents.

When enraged, it looks like this:

Thirty feet tall and fifteen feet wide at its lowest branches, this imported Skund pine is perhaps the purest distilled expression of arboreal annoyance the Sto Plains have ever seen. Tinsel and magical lights and hams and packet upon packet of sausages falling off it as it swats at passersby, it's sure to bring a fond tear to the eye of anyone prone to recalling the Hogswatches of their youth through rosy hindsight.

Safety

Be sure that neither you nor anyone else pokes it! That would be most unsafe.

Syntax : poke [the] [Hogswatch] tree with <weapon>
You poke the giant Hogswatch tree. The giant Hogswatch tree tries to ignore it.
You poke the giant Hogswatch tree. The giant Hogswatch tree tries to ignore it.
You poke the giant Hogswatch tree. The giant Hogswatch tree tries to ignore it.
You poke the giant Hogswatch tree. The giant Hogswatch tree finally cracks and bellows in fury, uprooting itself from its pot and thrashing around in festive seasonal rage.
The enraged giant Hogswatch tree moves aggressively towards you!

Please note that when enraged, the Hogswatch tree can attack players in the room, it seems even those that poked it in the past and not just recently.

  • Idling in the centre of the Royal Market it not recommended unless you want to fight while idle!
  • As many players choose to port to the centre of the Royal Market to port to Sto Lat, please be aware that you could port to the location mid-fight or face a recently triggered tree, its recommended to move out of the room as fast as possible just in case.

There's some saplings that spawn when fighting, you can try to find in which room they are with l around (when the weather / light is good).

The enraged giant Hogswatch tree raises its branches to the sky in a silent call for aid. The ground begins to rumble!
To the east, with a spray of dislodged cobblestones, an enraged Hogswatch sapling bursts out of the ground.
To the west, with a spray of dislodged cobblestones, an enraged Hogswatch sapling bursts out of the ground

Note that it's possible for sprays of needles to injure people in nearby rooms as well, not just the room with the Hogswatch tree itself.

Presents

The enraged Hogswatch tree has been defeated!
One of the huge presents that hung on the tree falls to the ground! There's sure to be something nice in there for you.

You will get a present if you participated in defeating the tree. The command to grab your present is, confusingly, grab my present from present

Ornaments
  • A  brightly painted wooden pine tree This delightfully traditional wooden Hogswatch ornament was quite possibly handmade by elves near Nothingfjord, and painted in bright cheerful colours according to the natural human impulse to do everything possible to keep the dark and chill of winter away. This particular ornament looks exactly like the gigantic Skund pine that ravaged Sto Lat. It would be perfect to put on the Hogswatch tree, if you happened to be the kind of person who relished both recursion and sadistic black humour.
  • A  brightly painted wooden tooth fairy This delightfully traditional wooden Hogswatch ornament was quite possibly handmade by elves near Nothingfjord, and painted in bright cheerful colours according to the natural human impulse to do everything possible to keep the dark and chill of winter away. This particular ornament looks exactly like Violet the tooth fairy, complete with stepladder and pliers.
  • A  brightly painted wooden Mister Teatime This delightfully traditional wooden Hogswatch ornament was quite possibly handmade by elves near Nothingfjord, and painted in bright cheerful colours according to the natural human impulse to do everything possible to keep the dark and chill of winter away. This particular ornament looks exactly like Mister Teatime the Assassin, dressed all in black and grinning a disturbing grin. Just how sure are you that this isn't a convoluted scheme he's arranged to position himself on top of your Hogswatch tree when the Hogfather is due?
  • A  brightly painted wooden Bilious, the Oh God of Hangovers This delightfully traditional wooden Hogswatch ornament was quite possibly handmade by elves near Nothingfjord, and painted in bright cheerful colours according to the natural human impulse to do everything possible to keep the dark and chill of winter away. This particular ornament looks exactly like Bilious, Oh God of Hangovers, right down the stained toga and the crumpled laurels. It depicts Him in characteristic pose, leaning over as though about to be loudly sick into the pile of presents under the tree. Someone's getting carrots this year...
Costumes

Costumes don't fit humans or giant fruitbats.

You cannot put on the cute Hogfather costume as you are too big to wear something designed for pets.
  • A  pink Snouter costume This costume is designed so your pet can dress up as Snouter, one of the Hogfather's magical flying pigs who pull his sleigh. It's marvellously pink, and has cute floppy pig ears, and an adorable pink snout, and a delightful curly tail.
  • A  pink Rooter costume This costume is designed so your pet can dress up as Rooter, one of the Hogfather's magical flying pigs who pull his sleigh. It's marvellously pink, and has cute floppy pig ears, and an adorable pink snout, and a delightful curly tail.
  • A  pink Tusker costume This costume is designed so your pet can dress up as Tusker, one of the Hogfather's magical flying pigs who pull his sleigh. It's marvellously pink, and has cute floppy pig ears, and an adorable pink snout, and a delightful curly tail.
  • A  pink Gouger costume This costume is designed so your pet can dress up as Gouger, one of the Hogfather's magical flying pigs who pull his sleigh. It's marvellously pink, and has cute floppy pig ears, and an adorable pink snout, and a delightful curly tail.
  • A  cute Hogfather costume This costume is designed so your pet can dress up as the Hogfather, in a little red outfit with a broad black belt, a pointy floppy hat, and a long white beard.
Wearable pets

Warning: existing pets might object to having or wearing a new pet. A scorpion wearable pet killed a confused squirrel when trying to wear it.

  • A  disgruntled owl This small brown owl had settled in for a peaceful session of contemplative thought after dinner - definitely not a snooze at all - when her tree was rudely uprooted and moved into a decidedly less salubrious neighbourhood. She's decided to make the best of a bad lot and ride around on someone's shoulder for a while. She's really a very lovely-looking owl, with soft brown feathers and huge yellow eyes. Oddly, the feathers on her head form a kind of pointy hat.
  • A  confused squirrel This adorable red squirrel was enjoying a nap in the branches of his favourite tree, and then there was a lot of thrashing around and shouting, and then someone unwrapped the present he'd somehow got himself inside in his asleep. Now he's still confused, but pretty happy to sit on someone's shoulder and see the Disc.
  • A  teacup pig This is a tiny pig, sitting comfortably in a large porcelain teacup covered in a jolly pattern of sausages and holly leaves. He wears a little red velvet three-piece suit, and waves a miniature teacup of his own happily.
  • A  miniature sausage dog This curious little creature looks like a miniaturised balloon dog, except if the balloons were made of freshly-cooked sausage links. Its head, body and legs are all mouth-watering frankfurters, its tail is a wagging chipolata and its floppy ears are each a slice of semi-crispy bacon. It looks as delicious as it does adorable.
Furniture
  • A  castle with pointy bits This is a big castle with pointy bits, which is to say a scale model of King Hans-Ludwig-Pyotr the Utterly Mad's castle at Bad Schweinfleisch, complete with moat (filled with shiny blue foil), drawbridge, portcullis, model soldiers guarding the battlements, and tall turrets with blue pointy roofs, princesses, locking up, suitable for.  (weighs about 20 lb)
Scabbard
  • A  fantastical toymaker's cloak This flowing calf-length full circle cloak has been sewn from deep blue velvet and lined with golden taffeta, light enough to swirl and billow but thick enough to be toasty warm on a winter's day. The fabric has been embroidered all over with moons, stars, snowflakes, and dancing toys, from soldiers in their peaked caps to dashing mouseketeers, Klatchian dancers, Agatean mandarins, and gauzy-winged fairies.  (sheathes up to four tools or wands, weighs about a pound)
Mounts
  • A  velvet-cushioned saddle Solidly built and luxuriously padded with deep red velvet cushions, this saddle is basically a kind of equestrian armchair trimmed with white fur and glittering baubles.  (weighs about seven pounds)
  • A  embroidered velvet saddlecloth Thick and plush, this red velvet saddlecloth has been embroidered all over with a scattering of glittering snowflakes and twinkling stars. The edges are trimmed with white fur, and a golden bauble hangs from each corner.  (weighs about three pounds)
  • A  pair of winter wonderland saddlebags These saddlebags are made from sturdy leather, dyed a shimmering pale blue and decorated with little crystal icicles and snowflakes.  (weighs about four pounds)
Food
  • A  pink sugar pig Round and plump and utterly adorable, this is as faithful a replica of one of the Hogfather's pigs as it's possible to get through the medium of pink sugar. It has adorable beady eyes, adorable floppy ears, and its tail is a piece of string stiffened with sugar to make it properly twirly.
  • A  shiny box This wide, flat box has been covered with shiny silver paper. Its interior is divided into a number of compartments. (contains 12 shaped chocolates, shapes found: apple, bee, cabbage, coffee bean, cow, fairy, horse, potato, rock, sausage, teapot, worm.)
  • A  greaseproof paper package This functional-looking package of greaseproof paper looks large enough to contain more than a snack, but less than a feast. (Contains: two mincemeat toasties, one sprout 'n' chestnut pie.)
  • A  turnip sack This is a perfectly ordinary sack, as any farmer might use to transport turnips for pig or horse feed. Someone has helpfully dyed it a cheerful Hogswatchy red and added a shoulder strap. (Contains: 11 turnips.)
  • A  bright green bag This small bag is made from bright green paper, waxed on the inside to keep its contents fresh. (Contains an assortment of flavoured sprouts, which can be any of: bacon, black pudding, caramel, cheese, chestnut, chilli, garlic, and tea.)
  • A  sparkling crystal jar of sugar lumps This pretty little jar has been carefully engraved with dozens of snowflakes and horseshoes, and a cheerful red ribbon wraps around the neck in a little Hogswatch bow. (Contains: 12 sugar lumps.)
Drink
  • A  Casa de Cerdos sherry bottle This tall green bottle is, as the dark red label proclaims, from the Casa de Cerdos cellar in Tramplona. The label shows a stout, dignified pig wearing a Hogfather hat. (Contains: one pint of Hogswatch sherry.))
  • A  Hogswatch Ale bottle Solid and stout, this bottle has clearly been designed to hold a good pint of Hogswatch cheer. The jolly red label bears a huge boar wearing a paper hat and hoisting a pint in his trotter, and the cork has a glittering silver snowflake painted on it. (Contains: one pint of Hogswatch ale.)
Jewellery
  • A  tinsel charm bracelet This bracelet is braided from festive, if slightly itchy, Hogswatch tinsel in red and green and gold. A number of jump rings have been woven into the braid, allowing the wearer to attach charms.
Misc
  • A  thread spool A wooden spool to hold thread used for embroidery and mending clothes. It is full of [colour] silk threads. (colours: Bloody Entrails Red, Cheerful Red, Frosty White, Piggy Pink, Pine Green, Sparkly Tinsel Gold, Sparkly Tinsel Silver, Starry Black, Winter Sky Blue.)
  • A  frosty white perfume bottle This is a perfume bottle made out of frosty white crystal. It is almost full of [scent] perfume which can be sprayed onto someone. (scents: Bacon Rasher, Boiled Sprout, Crisp Winter Breeze, Fresh Entrail, Mince Pie, Pine Needle, Pork Pie, Roasted Chestnut, Sherry Trifle, Sizzling Sausage, Snow Cloud.)
