Overview

Embroidery allows you to use a needle and thread to embroider patterns or text onto items made of cloth, such as clothing.

Embroidery is a craft activity.

Where and What

Embroidery requires an embroidery needle and some thread. Patterns can be embroidered from designs in embroidery pattern books.

Embroidery (and often quilting) equipment including pattern books can be purchased in various shops around the Disc, such as a shop on Loom Alley in Ankh-Morpork, a tea parlour on Queen's Road in Sto Lat or the Ninja guild craft room on Silk Lane in Bes Pelargic.

An embroidery unpicker can be used to remove embroidered text or patterns from an item. Skills or additional details unknown, if any.

Pattern Details

Patterns come in various difficulties, requiring various amounts of thread to complete. Different coloured thread can be used in a single pattern.

Depending on the skill of the embroiderer, the resulting pattern can take one of eight forms - four levels of success, and four of failure.

Skills Used

crafts.materials.needlework (embroidering patterns and text) crafts.arts.design (embroidering patterns) crafts.arts.calligraphy (embroidering text - assumed)

Embroidery needle Discworld player help Embroidery needle

Name
embroidery needle - used to add embroidery to clothing

Syntax
     embroider text <string> on <clothing> with <needle>
embroider pattern from <book> on <clothing> with <needle>
     thread <needle> with <thread>
     remove thread from <needle>

Description
Once threaded, the embroidery needle can be used to embroider a small
amount of text on an item of clothing (or a special linen square). The
text will appear in the language you are currently speaking and so you
need to be proficient in it.

If you have an embroidery pattern book you can embroider a pattern on
an item of clothing. The book must be open to the page you wish to
embroider from and a number of threads may be required to complete the
     pattern.

Only certain materials can be embroidered on. If you make a mistake
you can remove the embroidery with an unpicker.

Embroidering uses the skill crafts.materials.needlework and
     crafts.arts.design helps with embroidering patterns.

Examples

     > thread needle with thread
You thread the embroidery needle with a blue cotton thread.

     > embroider pattern from book on tunic with needle
You confidently start to embroider your yellow tunic.
You reach the end of your thread and tie a knot in it, noting that there is
still some work to be done on the pattern.

     > embroider text Born to Rune on tunic with needle
You carefully start to embroider something on your yellow tunic.
You add the last stitch to your yellow tunic and tie a knot in the thread.
