Crondor's Fabulous Detection (abbreviated as CFD) is a miscellaneous-type spell used to determine whether a magical artifact can be safely recharged. Upon a successful cast, the targeted artifact will glow in one of several colours giving a rough idea of how safe recharging is.
Effects
As mentioned above, the artifact will glow one of several colours. Here they are listed in order from least dangerous to most dangerous in terms of the item's ability to receive a recharge -
- Purple
- Green
- Red
- Blue
- Orange
- Pink
- Yellow
- Cyan
- Indigo
- Vermilion
Casting
The spell costs 25gp per cast, and affects a single targeted artifact.

Casting messages

You tap your staff grandly on the floor, considering the strength and solidity of an ancient oak tree. Concentrating on the solid strength of the gold ring, you compare it with the star sapphire ring. You probe the magical power in the star sapphire ring by turning it over and over in your hand and your mind.
- Success
The blue crystal ring glows purple.
- Failure
If the target is not an artifact:
The star sapphire ring isn't a charged artifact.
Skillcheck failure (wizard changes his colour):
You probe the magical power in the silver ring by turning it over and over in your hand and your mind. The silver ring turns several colours at once, then gives up. You feel colourful.
- What others see
Dark Claudio Womblesworth thumps his staff on the floor. Dark Claudio Womblesworth stiffens. Dark Claudio Womblesworth stares at a blue crystal ring. The blue crystal ring glows purple.
