Contemplate is a command that lets a wizard focus on a spell, feeding all available guild points into it. After enough contemplation, this can theoretically result in a tm in a skill that the spell uses.
Usage
> contemplate Wurphle's Midnight Snack You focus your mind on Wurphle's Midnight Snack. With Wurphle's Midnight Snack at the forefront of your mind, you enter a deep trance. You emerge from your trance. You feel Wurphle's Midnight Snack sitting in your mind, eager to be fed again.
After enough repetitions:
> contemplate Wurphle's Midnight Snack You focus your mind once more on Wurphle's Midnight Snack. With Wurphle's Midnight Snack at the forefront of your mind, you enter a deep trance. You emerge from your trance. You feel that you have contemplated this as far as you can for the moment. Your mind feels less crowded as Wurphle's Midnight Snack returns to its normal place. You feel exhausted from your ordeal; you should probably wait a while before contemplating Wurphle's Midnight Snack again.
You get the same message if you try to contemplate the same spell again immediately afterwards.
You can also use contemplate by itself, which will tell you which spell you're currently contemplating (helping you avoid cross-contemplation).
> contemplate You have previously contemplated Torqvald's Illusion Generatrix.
Cross-contemplating
To cross-contemplate is to contemplate a spell, then contemplate a different spell before feeding enough gp into the first one. This results in an intelligence penalty of -4 for about fifteen minutes, which is reduced to -2 for another twenty minutes or so, then reduced to -1 for another fifteen minutes or so.
This will happen even if the spell you're currently contemplating is no longer in your mind.
The Restore ritual will remove the stat penalty.
Tms
What a tm from contemplation looks like:
You focus your mind once more on Kipperwald's Perlustration Prevention. With Kipperwald's Perlustration Prevention at the forefront of your mind, you enter a deep trance. You emerge from your trance. Saving... You feel Kipperwald's Perlustration Prevention release the thaumaturgical equivalent of a burp. You sense you have more strength than before in defensive magic. Your mind feels less crowded as Kipperwald's Perlustration Prevention returns to its normal place. You feel exhausted from your ordeal; you should probably wait a while before contemplating Kipperwald's Perlustration Prevention again.
