Ranged weapons are weapons that are thrown or fired at one's opponent.

Because combat in the Discworld MUD usually requires two players to be in the same room, and does not account for the size of each room, ranged weapons are of extremely limited use. For example, a player can use a crossbow to attack a target who is using knives, but the game mechanics will assume that the players are within melee range of each other. As you can imagine, this would be highly disadvantageous to the would-be archer.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, including:

  • Assassins have the option of using a ranged weapon to close contracts.
  • Ranged weapons are one of the most common ways to deliver poison.
