Blue lotus is an aquatic perennial. Lotus have large leathery leaves that float on the surface and are topped with showy flowers. The plant superficially resembles a water-lily, but the latter is a different genus. Various species of lotus (not necessarily the blue lotus) have been used for food, animal forage, and medicinal purposes.
